What are the opinions on him being a starter next season? Ike has clearly lost a step., and Allen is a mess. Don't even ask what the cap amount was for these two in 2014.

McCain is short ( 5'9" ), but he's very fast and with fine hands. I'm okay with him being the #2 CB for now, but think he's best as a #3 / slot corner.

McCain started nine games in 2014, and made his share of big plays. Can he do it again is he starts? Either way, this was a good free agent pick up by Colbert. Not enough to mask the smell of the Mitchell and Allen contracts though.

If they can bring him back fairly inexpensively, then he should absolutely be back. Ike won't be back, that's 100% certain. Cortez Allen will probably be back, but they could always cut ties with him and just eat the dead money rather than pay him his $3 million roster bonus. But we need to add two draft picks into the mix. Bring back Gay, McCain, Blake, two draft picks and let them fight it out. Anything we get from Cortez should be viewed as a bonus.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back. He no worse than C.Allen. I feel that McCain/Gay/Blake provided more stability at CB that we have seen since (yes I'll say it) Taylor/McFadden a few years back. C. Allen will be back at least next year. The Steelers can't afford the dead money hit.

If they do manage to clear up some cap space, It would be cool to see someone like Byron Maxwell come on board. But….

I wasn't enthused about the signing when it was made way back when. He played better than I expected, but my expectations were low. I wouldn't mind keeping him for a reasonable salary. I agree that putting him in as a #2 is, probably, stretching his talent.

The thing about Allen is that he's the type of guy that's not going to just settle for where he is at, or how he performed. He's gonna go into the offseason and really figure out what was going on, get his confidence back, and work hard to improve.

He's the type of guy you want on your team, and I think that is a big reason why he was signed to begin with. He has the size, the athleticism, but he also has the work ethic and the attitude that you want. I think he surprises people next year and comes back much improved.

I sure hope so. He went to a military school, so hopefully that factors in on him improving himself.

This is how I see it. McCain was our best #2 Corner....since maybe Townsend. With 3 picks in nine games started, he might cash out elsewhere. I would like him back.

The down side is he was terrible on Houston.

Ike was on the fan a week or so ago, and he said Cortez was hurt all year, but he didn't want to go to the coaches or trainers, Ike said he was hurting more than most people know. Ike sounded like he had to talk Allen into finally going and telling the coaches he was hurt. I hope he comes back from being benched like Ike did 2006. I'd like to have McCain back, would rather give him money instead of Worilds

The trouble is the Steelers gave Worilds franchise tag money. He's good, but not worth 9-10 million a year. Some team will make Worilds an offer in free agency. We can't match a long term deal for 9+ million a year and re-sign Ben. If that's the case lets just hope for a 3rd round comp pick in 2016.

The worst thing to do would be overpaying Woridls and getting stuck al la Woodley. Take the comp pick! I wish we did that for Sanders. Boy we could have used an extra 3rd round pick on a DB or pass rusher. Instead we only had one and used it on a small college role player that looks like a bust ( Archer )

totally agree on Worilds, but at least when they signed Woodley it looked like he'd be worth the contract, Worilds hasn't shown me anything, except that he thinks he's better than he is.

I think paying worlids to stay will be a mistake. We need some new pwesonnel on d and worilds will be too expensive to keep, and he wasn't impactful enough anyway.

if worilds wants to stay for say, 5 - 6 millions a year then fine, bring him back. Anything more would be a mistake

I hear ya. Worilds would not start on some past Steeler teams. He's a notch below Lloyd, Brown, Greene, Porter, Harrison and Woodley.

When healthy, Worilds is solid, not very good or great. Woodley for a while was very good. Then he put on a lot of weight after getting his second year contract ,and had injury issues.

He's several notches below those guys, Haggans was better than this guy.

I'd say Haggans and Woriilds are about even. Our problem is Harrison will be 37 in 2015, and Jarvis Jones ( who has arms like a DB ) , has been a huge disappointment as a pass rusher. Worilds' agent has us right where he wants us.

yeah he does, but he only has 7.5 Sacks to corner us with. He doesn't have a legit pass rusher opposite him, I will give him that

Coach, you know I gotta ask it... What are your thought's on McCain's head size?

;-) Just ribbing you a bit man. Think of it this way. You are legitimately part of SN legacy. Gump gave us Sweet Titties, you gave us the intangible "big head" combine measurable.

I do love you though, fella. Don't take it wrong.

McCain was our best CB. Pay whatever it takes.
That said, I have every confidence that the FO will instead pay Worilds whatever it takes and be in cap hell regarding signing better players (see Sanders, Manny).

He's a solid #2 or #3. Our secondary had stretch of games at the end of the season where they played reasonably well-this coincided with the front 7 getting better pressure. My hope is Cortez Allen will bounce back like Ike did in 2006, but we still need to spend a top-3 pick on a corner. If we can fix our pass rush, having Gay, Allen, McCain and Blake as our corners is doable.

I'm voting for William Gay as the number one DB, at present. Second is VERY close - I think that both McCain and Blake, when called upon, showed a great deal of moxie, if I may, while engaging their prescribed battles on the field of play. Obviously, this is just my opinion...

totally agree...McCain and Blake stepped up about as well as anyone realistically could hope....and Blake is a pretty good ST guy....

I see it as

1. Gay
1b. New Guy
3. McCain
4. Blake

I dunno about Allen...could turn out ok, could be a Safety, could get cut....if they can fit in a FA vet for close to his money, I'd cut him, or try to get a draft pick outta somebody that's desperate later.

I think I've retired from commenting on men's heads. They just don't do much for me. However if the topic is Women and heads...

Both McCain and Blake were big surprises! Can they do it again? Gay is very good. He's one of our top 3 defenders to be honest. The Steelers used to love BIG run supporting corners who can hit. But the game has changed. Give me the guy who can cover first, and defend the run second.
