(Will be fun to see how it unfolds VS how we think it will unfold)

I think a DE will be picked within 1-3 - Draft is heavy at the top with D-line talent. And one way to improve the D is to keep Heyward and Tuitt fresher. I look for a run blocking specialist who might be a little raw in the pass rush area, but comes with potential. I am leaning towards a DE or NT coming off the board in 1. (Based on BPA VS need)

CB and S will be dependent on what happens in free agency. But I think regardless within 1-3 a SS or CB will be selected.

Steelers will pick a QB ..... round 4 or 7

OT/G 4 or 7....

WR RB ? if one falls and is clearly a BPA ? anywhere from 2 down.....

TE -Round two if Hunter falls. if not, none.

Not sold on a S or CB being picked in one. I think if so a SS would get the nod with Su'a in 1 or 2 but....

I really think DE will push a worthy CB /SS/TE down to the Steelers in 2. I see one of the three picked there. I am leaning more towards SS or CB.

who do you see worthy sitting there at CB or S in 1 at 25?
why wait to 3 to pick a DE with so much talent sitting there between 1 and 2?
Steelers do not have a pick in 5 or 6.

Because it is so early and the combine and pro days haven't happened yet I will give my early guess, and a more informed prediction closer to the draft.

Rounds 1-3 (in no particular order yet):

DL- There is no doubt in my mind we will be taking a DL in the first three rounds. With the amount of talent at this position in the draft, this is the year to be able to snag a top 15 DL late in the 1st or a 1st rd DLineman in 2nd or 3rd, it is a loaded position this year.

CB/S- This could possibly be a direction we go in round 1, since Rooney II emphasized improving the secondary. But the norm will most likely be a 2nd or 3rd rounder, as there is talent there in this draft but I wouldn't call it deep and besides Ramsey and Hargreaves there isn't many top flight prospects in the secondary. Also there may not even be a 1st round safety worth taking at 25.

WR/EDGE Rusher- this is the part where it gets interesting, as WR will not be viewed as a need but I'm predicting what the Steelers will possibly do. Based on AB's contract coming up (which I think they'll do whatever possible to to keep him, and hope they do), Wheaton possibly not staying, Sammie Coates is still an uncertainty, it would not shock me if the Steelers target a Braxton Miller or another WR they covet in the 1st 3 rounds. Edge rusher is more tricky as there aren't many top flight prospects, and unless Noah Spence can convince the Steelers he's moved beyond his past he won't even be on the Steeler's board (unfortunate as he is easily a top 15 talent, but it's hard to trust a guy with a past drug problem) and there is really no other edge rusher worth a first rounder. So if they go this direction it'll most likely be 2nd-3rd.

With so few draft picks, I just can't see us picking a QB. If we do, it will be a 7th rounder. They are not looking and should not be looking for Ben's replacement for a couple more years. They need to address the secondary and someone to put pressure on the QB. If they don't pick a CB in the 1st or 2nd round, this draft is a fail. Unless, of course, they pick up a starter in free agency and re-sign Gay.

I predict Tomlin will "reach" for a "sexy" pick somewhere in round 1 or 2 and the guy will be a bust (kinda like a repeat of the Jarvis pick).

Boy, that was easy!

this isn't that kind of thread

this is a who do you think will get drafted where thread

not a hate Tomlin thread

BTW you left out Colbert in the decision making process.

A 3 down interior DL would be my first pick. Reed and Butler looked great in the Senior Bowl and Robinson and Billings are rated even better by some. Hopefully one could fall to 25. There are two OLB's who seem to project as SS's-Lee of OSU and Jones of LSU. Look forward to seeing all of them in the combine. There look to be 2/3 top end CB's who won't get to us then a pretty close 5/6. Need to see times. I'd rather go FA there because we already have too much inexperience. Since we're competing for a SB I'd do my best to retain Beachum/Villanuava/Foster/and Gay and forget messing with that WR corp.

Who else of the last 5 years 1 and 2's would you put in that category?

I like the idea of a 1st RD DL. I am just not sold on a 1st RD DB unless you are high up there and he is special. I think the guy has to be special with the rules, and do you get that at 25? Hope they spend a bit in FA and maybe fill the need at CB or safety there.

Something says to me that they may go offense, though. They have gone defense in the 1st for 3 years. I could see a TE or a G in the 1st.

No LB at all? The last time we didn't select a LB was 2009. We have decent LB depth, but still need a pass rusher, at a minimum to at least give Jarvis some competition (which shouldn't be hard to do).

I agree with your assessment of SS/CB...the sweet spot seems to be top 12 in round 1 or wait until rounds 2-3. If we take one at 1.25, it will be considered a "reach", however, most likely they wouldn't be there at 2.25 so I wouldn't blame them for taking someone like Sua or Fuller if Tombert falls in love with one of them.

I could see pass rusher but not sure where, maybe a little higher if Deebo hangs it up. Maybe a little lower if not...

1. Hunter Henry TE Arkansas
2. CB/S best player available of the two.
3. CB/S which ever wasn't taken in round 2.
4. An O-lineman or Dlineman best player available of the two.
5. No pick.
6. (comp pick) same as round 4.
7. If two Olinemen or two Dlineman were taken in round 4/6 than one from the remaining group not selected. If one each in 4/6 then an OLB.
7a. OLB, DB or a QB depending on who we picked in rounds 4,6 and 7.

trade back and get an extra 2nd and an extra 3rd. That would give us 4 picks where this draft seems deeper regarding value. Then you can get your CB, your S, a DL and OLB

1. Hunter Henry TE Arkansas
2. CB/S best player available of the two.

comp pick will be a 6th?

I was thinking a 7th...

I would take Henry in the first. Ben would have a huge smile on his face. But, the rest of the draft must be secondary with a D-lineman or two. If needed, pick up a veteran QB to compete with Jones and Gradkowski (if he is healthy enough for camp).

Steelers make a trade, move up and take Bosa from Ohio State.

I am ok taking value but mortgaging what little draft they have this year..... to move that far up in the draft to take Bosa ? borders on lunacy.

I think it will be d line . With Lots of good ones someone is going to fall on draft day. Good bad or ugly we seem to like guys the have fallen. A dlineman that can move inside and out in the first then a safety in the second... corner back or offensive lineman in the third.
