How is this possible? I thought losing Martavis for the year was gonna be it as far as bad **** happening....

Don’t want to ring all the alarm bells here but it appears that Senquez Golson went for an MRI after today’s practice.

The news was initially reported by Dale Lolley over at the Observer Reporter, leading off his notes from today’s practice. According to him, Golson didn’t participate in today’s practice and left the UPMC Sports Complex to get looked at.

Lolley does caution that this could be precautionary and that Golson told him he felt “good” yesterday. Of course, we had no idea of the severity of Golson’s injury last year either so we’ve seen the team be close to the vest before, especially on anything injury-related.

The team’s second round pick is looking to make his first footprint in the NFL after missing last year with a torn labrum in his shoulder. The injury came during OTAs and he was put on injured reserve during training camp.

Early indications had Golson playing on the outside to kick off OTAs though as Matthew Marczi pointed out, Golson wasn’t too worried about where he was playing. Now, let’s just hope the results of this test aren’t going to again hinder his ability to play, period.

We’ll try and keep you posted on Golson’s status for the rest of OTAs. Media can’t directly report on injured players, using player’s comments as their reporting guides, so hopefully someone is able to get an answer for all of us soon.

I'm not going to freak out until we hear more. Also, we know we are bound to lose more players than Bryant for the year. Just have to find a way to adapt and hope for the best.

Report from Lolley says he doesn't know what part had the MRI. Hopefully it's on his shoulder and just a precaution to take a look. Maybe he needs a minor surgery to clean it up a bit. That's better than needing one on a new injury.

Hope this isnt bad. ******* damn. Not freaking out(kinda)

Can we just get thru game 7 tonight before any terrible news strikes? Geez louise, like I'm not already on edge enough!

Which is worse, a talented guy we can't get on the field (Golson) or a hack we can't get off the field (Jarvis)?

Of course this is bad. No matter how you look at it, having an MRI means he is, at least, somewhat injured and will miss practice time. For a rookie or him, that usually means you won't play that year. You just can't miss any time. If it's his shoulder, that makes this even worse because he has been laid up for a long time and if it isn't healed by now, it could be a career hindering injury..

Hopefully it's nothing but having an MRI means it's something 99.9% of the time even if it only means he misses OTA's.

and it looks like he took his first off-season seriously.

As Dave Bryan wrote earlier today, Senquez Golson started on the outside in yesterday’s first OTA practice. It is easy to look at his slight frame and question if he can compete against the bigger receivers he’ll see but Golson has used the offseason to help combat that.

Golson has added roughly ten pounds during the offseason, tipping the scales at around 186 pounds, according to Chris Adamski. He weighed in at the 2015 Combine at 176.

I did not like this pick from moment one. Golson is too small. Of the 4 TD's he gave up his last season, three were vs taller WR's. While adding 10 pounds is nice, it slows a player down a bit. If he's a slot guy only, I'd rather him keep his speed and quickness.

I do not jest, he was our 2nd best corner the second he got on the field last year after stupidly sitting behind Blake for most of the year.

There was a massive understanding between Colbert and Tomlin on this move. The Steelers essentially flushed a 5th round pick down the toilet. With Blake being that bad, Boykin should have played far more.

Boykin was highly rated as a slot person. I suspect there were some internal issues between Tomlin and Boykin that never hit the media that had nothing to do with Boykin's play on the field. If Boykin was a bad seed type, Colbert and his staff should have known better.

Highly rated, yet couldn't stick with another team even into training camp.

Think about the bold part for a second. Think about it again, And a third time. If there were also issues with Boykin and his prior coach that no one knew about how on earth would Colbert have known better?

Think with an open mind and not just criticism.

Boykin did not come back to Pittsburgh. He was cut before camp by the team that picked him up. And, he has now been turned down by 2 other teams after his workout//visit with the team. Not sure what his problem is but I don't want him back.

Nothing to see here until there is an actual injury to report. MRI could indeed just be a check up

Jesus Christ I'm so tired of the Boykin ball washing. Enough..it was Boykin who gave up the big catch against a rookie on the Broncos scoring drive. It was Boykin who was too ***** to stick his nose in there on the goaline in the Broncos TD. Let it go already he wasn't that good and he didn't play because he wasn't physical enough in the run game. No conspiracy.. That's it. We gave up a 5th round pick for depth purposes.

Boykin. It will never die. So much angst for so little worth.

Holy **** people. No other team in the country wants Boykin, why should we?

I'm no expert medical guy but it would seem sensible to send a player that sat out last year with an ankle injury to get checked out good before putting a lot of stress on that ankle. Worst case is it didn't heal correctly and gets re injured in OTA's again. Maybe he didn't like the way it felt on the field and they wanted to check for problems before camp. Either way, I'm thinkin' it's better to be safe and have confidence in the healing process than to just send him out there on a wing and prayer.
