Would Antwaan Randle El be Kylar Murray if he was drafted in 2020?

Very much similar athleticism, size, and ability but a completely different era of football. ARE was used as an athlete in college both running and throwing as the now pass happy play would not be an option in that era of rules. But ARE had very good NFL passing stats completing 22/27 323 yards 6td 0int.

Everyone talks about Kordell and how he was ahead of his time but I watched Kordell and he wasn’t smart enough to read a defense, or run an offense as he always singled in on one receiver and constantly threw into coverage and was always late with the ball. I think ARE displayed more potential as a passer in his limited reps.

Didn't most of those stats come from trick plays?, how would he handle under center? No way to know

He was a triple option QB in college who was moved to WR his Senior year because he projected there for the NFL. However, the team struggled without him under center so he shifted back to QB. I saw him live run that triple option too...freakin' jitterbug and fun to watch. The day i saw him live, i wanted him to be a Steeler. I was geeked when they were able to get him. I dont' know how well he would do under center in today's game but i don't recall the knocks on him as a passer in college. But, like i said, he was doing a lot of triple option; don't recall if he did a lot of under center or gun work but, like i say, was projected to WR in NFL back then so there had to be some concern.

Also - Lito's point. great stats from trick or one off plays, but don't recall ever seeing him start a game with a defense planning for him.

Sadly, painfully, absolutely true.

I read an article way back in 96 / 97 from a guy who had interviewed a bunch of "anonymous" defensive coordinators about Stewart. The coordinators basically said Stewart was a nightmare to plan against because he was so good at 3 different skill positions. However it was the def coords opinion that between RB, WR and QB, Stewart was weakest at QB and if you had to pick a poison, that was it.

So what does Stewart and his agent do? They choose to settle on the ONE position that was his weakest. I contend to this day that had Stewart remained in his WR / Slash position he would have been one of the most loved Steelers ever. Right up there with Ward. Goes to show, the decisions you make have very significant ripples down the line.

As for El, Always loved him. He was quick, reliable and as I remember it, just a great teammate. I never remember ANY drama with El. And I think there WAS one game where he had to play for a bit as emergency QB. Is that right, or am I just imagining it?

Kordell went the direction where he got paid the highest....can't blame him for that.
