With no LBers picked in the draft look for the Steelers to bring in one more UFA

First there was the rumor about trading up for Evans. And as the draft unfolded pick after pick. I kept thinking about Colbert's pre-draft comment. About the lack of top end talent at ILber. We can debate if they simply didn't see a Shazier type talent, but it is clear they didn't see value there at the position. One avenue is taking Marcus Allen and moving him closer in from the strong safety position. The other direction could be the Steelers looking around for one more body, to shore up depth. Preferably not Moats, Spence, or Timmons. Let us hope those bridges are crossed. And someone set off some dynamite blowing up that bridge, so they can't come crawling back. If we are going to be real, I doubt we want to press dirty red into coverage. So an injury to a starter could bring - yield similar undesirable results to last seasons problems at the position.

I liked this draft but you have to wonder if, the lack of a draft pick. Will force back a familiar face at inside linebacker.

Maybe a last second cutdown from a team? or will the Steelers roll the dice and pray Bostic can stay healthy for a year?

Steelers we need one more brought in

please.

Wouldn't surprise me if they bring back Timmdong because "He knows the system".

Matthew Thomas is an intriguing UDFA signing

Agreed. I cannot believe that he was not drafted.

Oh, and I would used to the idea of Lawrence Timmons being around.

Emmanuel Sanders too.

.

I didn't know the first thing about Matthew Thomas so just read the NFL.com report on him. It is pretty scathing. Yikes

That being said, it sounds like if he can get his head together and allow himself to be coached up, he's got physical talent. We really need more athleticism in that spot. I still firmly believe Terrell Edmunds will be used in that role

In another thread I said there'd be a FA signing post TC or there of. Like slash said it will probably be a LB. I hope not any of the aforementioned players and it would be nice to sign so they can get a little TC under their belt. Maybe we have a sleeper in the midst. One thing is for sure, we are better off than before the draft and we can slide a player if needed.

Bostic is a lot better than I realized. If he's healthy and ready to go, I think we'll be just fine with him and VWill manning the middle.

The one thing I immediately notice about Bostic is how sound his tackling is, and while granted those are highlights there were several times he looked beat and still made the tackle.

Side note: I think many underestimate the value the Steelers have in Dirty Red, because what he lacks in athleticism he makes up for in his football awareness and game prep. He is really good at reading the play, and understanding tendencies from film which the majority of the time puts him in the right spot. I don't think we've really seen Red's full starting potential, regardless of his lack of athleticism.

Lol....a magic fairy will dust some Joe Schmoe UDFA to start at LB for us, yeah, thatll happen

Yeah I think the FO/staff have way more confidence in Bostic than we do as fans. He looks like an athlete who can hit and cover in those highlights. Granted yeah they are highlights but still. I think he can hold it down, talent wise. The question will be durability

Mind you, this is said "tongue in cheek" ... but, the fairy did it last year at Slot CB, so why not ask our fairy godmother to hit us with a LB too?

True and Spike, James Harrison says hi

Now perhaps not the rookie year, but there is solid starting undrafteds in the NFL. Started on STs then worked their way into a start.

If u said we might look at FA LBs then i might go along with that....wishing for walk on miracles is for Browns fans

Steelers had a decent amount of success with undrafteds.

So Pittsburgh is the city of miracles!

We should just pray it dont take 4 years for our D rookies to start.....baby steps

Ok Slash, there was many blogs commenting about Steeler's attempted trade up. KC wouldn't acknowledge any such attempt anyway (why would they?) However, it was originally presented that Pitt had a partner to trade up to get Evans, with Baltimore being the partner, but were asking for to much in return and the trade fell apart. It is now being reported, which actually makes more sense due to the parties involved, that Pitt had a trade deal with Carolina and it was to get Evans. However, when Ozzie and Harbaugh got wind, they allowed Tennessee to trade with them so as to not let us get Evans. Just one more reasons to fan the fire with those morons.

Does anyone know why Tegray Scales fell without being drafted? Medical/Attitude?

Did Skai Moore make someone's PS?

Barring major injury the Steelers will make the AFC Championship, and possibly the SB. My fearless prediction,

9-7 should win the division, first things first

It's gonna be tough, no creampuff schedule this year...I can see a bunch of losses...Pats, Saints, Jags, Atlanta, Tampa and maybe KC and Chargers too.

Go Ben!

5 WIDE!!! *******

Who are you to question Colbert's judgment. He didn't draft any linebackers for reasons! But in this case you're correct. I'll back ya pal.

Allen is too slow. 4.63 forty, and his balls skills are awful. If you watched the senior bowl practices he was easily beaten in the one on one drills.

Allen had but one interception in 49 games played.

Just 2 PD's for 2017 also sucks, Heck, his high for pass breaks up in college was 3 PD's in one season. Pretty weak, we've got linebackers and ends that can do that.

How he'll cut the mustard in the NFL in coverage...We shall see.
