Not everyone can live up to the immediate hype of what being a first round pick in the NFL Draft comes with. Some prospects can pick up right where they left off in college, bringing the individual success one had from the college ranks, and providing that same sort of outcome in their NFL career. […]

He'll have to seriously show something this year. I can't see them exercising his 5th-year option.

Bud Dupree comes to mind on that 5th year option. I can't predict the future but I'd think Terrell gets picked up for the 5th yr option. All indications are we will be in better "cap" compliance than this year . That 5th year is to keep cost down and give another year to develope and decide if player merits contract. It was paying off for Bud Dupree and it may well pay off for Terrell Edmonds, time will tell.

The 5th year option isn't cheap. I think that's why they only do it on guys they are pretty sure they are giving another contract to. Edmunds is still a tweener in my eyes. He does some things well but you'd sure figure he'd be much better in coverage than he is.

My personal opinion they will take the option. He has grown every year and is much more maligned than he should be. He plays well it is just obvious when he makes a mistake as it is the nature of the position and not always obvious when he is playing well. They won't want to create a hole they don't need to. Not every starter is going to be a pro bowl guy. We couldn't afford it.

I'd try to trade him, if someone thinks he is worth a high 3rd round pick I'd jump on that trade.

If not let him test Free agency and try to bring him back for a contract lower than the 5th year option cap hit

No on the fifth year option and his next contract will have nothing to do with his draft number but rather his perceived value based upon his tape.

No surprise here. His level of play since drafted has been exactly what I would have expected from a fourth round pick. Oh wait, Tomlin wanted him in round one since he had him on our board as a first round pick when most had him as a late 3'rd early fourth, Sorry folks, in my opinion he's just a guy and absolutely not of first round talent. Takes horrible angles, gets beat too often and tackling is not what it should be. I'd pass on a fifth year option imo.

I thought he has been solid but unspectacular. We have enough holes without creating a new one IMO.

It seems like he is always a step or two behind making a big play.

This is what happens when you draft a Day 2 guy on Day 1. He's not a bad player, he just wasn't a great value in the first round.

I think 2020 was his best year. I wouldnt do the 5th year, but I would extend him. We can get him cheap and he knows the system

his draft was years ago. I get the gripe, but it has nothing to do with his second contract. Teams are going to look at his NFL tape and make their offers based on that. Of course, there is a good chance someone will overpay for him because he was on this defense. May make him more attractive. I just hope it isn't PIT who overpays for him (not that we have the cash to do so).

I agree. He has played better since we added Fitz, that should tell us he's more of a Robin than a Batman. IF we were to move on who would replace him? I don't see anyone on the roster that is an upgrade. None of the FA guys that we could afford excite me and S seems to be one of the weaker positions in this years draft. Pick up the option but bring in other, developmental options, see what another year brings.

Thats my point, his NFL tape is nothing to write home about as I mentioned in describing his play. "Takes horrible angles, gets beat too often and and tackling is not what it should be". I would not pick up a fifth year option on this guy unless he makes major strides this in his fourth year.If he just plays like just another guy, I look to upgrade next year either in F/A or the draft.
