Because they just signed Fletcher Cox to a 103 mil extension with 63 guaranteed. Cox is a DT with 22 sacks in 4 years. Stupid stupid stupid contract.
Don't these teams understand yet that you can't win by paying anyone other then a QB 100 million??

That is just stupid. When the Eagles were contending almost every single year with Andy Reid, they never did dumb **** like this. As a matter of fact, they were kings at having the discipline to let aging players walk and not sign them to new deals after they hit 30, and this allowed them to stay competitive year after year.

The Eagles were stupid when they hired Mike Vick to QB their team...

Wow absolutely Terrible contract unless your Fletcher Cox who is probably ecstatic with the new deal.

big waste of money for the Iggles.

That is market value BUT it does not mean you have to pay it. He was already under contract and they could have tagged him next year so this really does not make sense to me.

They could have had him for 2 years and then let someone else pay it.

If I am the Donkeys I tell Miller he might as well sign his tag and get into camp because if he wants that kind of money he better get into camp and earn a contract with someone else next year.

So I sure hope this crazy deal doesn't set the market for Tuitt.

If Tuitt has a 6.5+ sacks this year and then 9.5+ the final year of his deal we probably would be looking at a 100M dollar deal to keep him. That's why these next two seasons are so crucial because our window will likely close quickly with Shazier, Tuitt, Big Al, Bell, Brown, etc all looking for a big pay day. Can't sign them all...

the eagles FO making it rain.

What a clusterfuck contract that also affects the payscale for the rest of the players ******* up our cap in the long run

As much as I like Tuitt, no way do I pay him a deal like this; it will wreck the whole cap. If players command this kind of price tag, find another one in the draft.

Under Chip Kelly, the Eagles were trying to use a 3-4 with the wrong players. Cox is very good but the 3-4 was a total waste of his abilities. The Eagles are betting that he is going to explode in their new scheme where Cox will be able to shoot gaps as a DT and not as a 2 gap DE in a 3-4.

Even being miscast as a 3-4 DE, Cox had 9.5 sacks. If he can give them 10 sacks per year at DT, he's well worth the money. Pressure up the middle is the most disruptive to any offense. If he puts up 12+ sacks, this is a bargain.

The Eagles are one of the teams that has never won a Super Bowl, keeping illustrious company with the Lions, Browns, and Jags.

one injury and that money goes to the *******, in a position that suffers a lot of contact. I rather have depth and balance than so much money on just one place (different than QB)

Yea but unlike those teams, they have been competitive.

I don't want to see no Philly teams win anything. No offense to Stillers. Ok, maybe the flyers for one season, Stillers did root for the Pens. But the Eagles and 76ers can choke on Rocky Balboa's weiner for all I care

Maybe so Tape, but why not wait the two years to actually negotiate the new contract. It's a 40 / 60 shot against him earning or berating an even better deal.. I take the current contract and possible franchise tag with the two years play.

I don't know if I consider this a backbreaking deal for them to win football games.

After this year, the team is going to enter a 4-5 year window where they will have very little salary/cap space dedicated to the QB spot. Once Bradford gets off their books in 2017, you are looking at a team who's financial picture will be similar to Seattle 2011-2015 and Baltimore 2008-2012.

And Philadelphia is actually one of the most frugal teams in the league. I did an analysis of cash spent on players over a recent 5-year stretch and I think the Steelers actually spent more money on salaries than the Eagles. Lurie is a cheapskate and has often left $10 million+ of unused cap room just rot away (back in the days it didn't carry over). The new CBA also requires a threshold of cast spent and the Eagles were projected way under that without this deal.

If you look at the Eagles books, they still have no likely player worth over $11.2 million on the salary cap in 2017. And they are very balanced with 15 players projected over $5 million on the cap in 2017 and 2018 (the Steelers by comparison have 7 players in 2017 and 6 players in 2018 with cap values over $5 million). I doubt that "core" of 15 players ends up being the team that is around Wentz if/when he takes off, but it shows they do tend to spread our their salaries on starters rather than 1-3 big contracts.

And just a reiteration. When Cox's contract really gets expensive in ($22 million in 2019 and $20.3 million in 2020) those just happen to be the last two years of Wentz's rookie deal when their likely starter is going to be counting $8.5 million and maybe $12 million (and the cap will be close to $190 million dollars).

The Flyers? I'd rather see the Sixers, Eagles, and Phillies all win during the same year than to see the Flyers win once. The Flyers are right there with the Rats in my book, and while I respect the Rats, I have zero respect for the Flyers. I hope their drought lasts as long as the Cubs'!!

Eh---we've won two Stanley's. I'm on cloud 9 right now. Flyers havent bothered me since 2012

Philly fans are mostly harmless. They will attack only if threatened, and they will boo the **** out of their own team before the opposing fans ever get the chance!
