Why is there no local media to pull Tomlin's chump card?

He has 1 SB win and 1 other appearance. The way he is going right now, he will not post a winning record for 3 out of the past 5 seasons. Have him as head coach with a team without a franchise QB or stability as the Steelers and he won't do jack ****. Had he not inherited the team he did, he'd not even have one ring. He is unlikely to walk into another quality situation as he did in Pgh. What did he inherit in Pgh? A roster jam packed with future Hall of Famers and Pro Bowl players.

Ben
Bettis
Parker
Ward
Miller
Harrison
Farrior
Ike
Troy
Keisel
Aaron Smith
Hampton
Clark
Gay
Woodley
Faneca
Holmes
Townsend

This team doesn't believe in him. After a while of all words and no actions, they stop listening.

Agree with your post. But Bettis was retired when cool shades took over

You are correct, my mistake. And even if he wasn't it would be the same point, as Bus was toast even by 2005.

I can't see the love fest either. Tomlin at best is an average coach (below average in my book). His core players but mainly the QB is near ending his career and Mikey will NOT even come close to winning seasons with this team he has amassed. Say what you want but a players coach usually is a lazy coach not willing to do their full job.

Ooooooo, you dropped truth. Actually, there are many manifestations seeming to point to MT either being lazy, or just not bright, or a little of both. For instance, why doesn't he appear to "turn over every stone" when it comes to trying to upgrade the roster at all times, like other teams do? Why does he settle for below average players, such as Jarvis AND Landry Jones? Why doesn't he ever seem to have a "plan B" when his current game plan isn't working? Because it would take effort and work. Why does he only offer a "confused mile long stare" when things are not going well during a game? Why does he rarely seem to communicate with players, trying to get thing right, during a game?

Definitely not completely absolving Cool Shades but a lot of this falls on Colbert too. Look at that list and aside from Farrior, Clark and Bettis, all were brought in via the draft or undrafted FA. Line up the top 15 drafted under Cowher with the top 15 drafted under Tomlin and the list is so one-sided it's ridiculous. AB and Bell are tops but it drops off big time after that and the defense draftees have been laughable outside of Heyward...and Bell has missed a lot of games. And when Colbert/Cower did bring in a FA it was a Farrior/Clark type player...now it's Mike Mitchell as the highest profile FA signing as well as guys we trade draft picks for just to sit the bench. The level of suck doesn't just start and stop with Tomlin, it's been a decade of horrible drafting and free agent pickups that have contributed a lot to the decline. Tomlin's coaching ability isn't enough to overcome the talent level drop off like a good coach would be able to do.

Another thing is we went from bringing in not only high quality talent but also high quality character players to a lot of "me first" players (although Ben had his fair share of off the field incidences under Cowher). Bettis, Ward, Smith, Keisel, Miller, Harrison, Ike, Clark, and obviously Troy were all known for their work ethic and never getting into trouble off the field. Now we have blunt toking suspensions yearly with players celebrating after making a tackle 12 yards down the field and pimping themselves up whenever they make a first down. Would a better and more strict coach put up with that crap and get that out of the team or is that just the new era of the NFL with social media and players trying to "brand" themselves? Probably a little of both, tbh

You forgot to mention that even after 10+yrs on the job he refuses to learn even rudimentary clock management skills.

Lazy and "below the line".

The more I think on it. The more I realize just how much Cowher's players carried this team. I'd wish Shades can shut our mouths and win and construct a team. But I am starting to jump on the bashing tomlin wagon. This team has just underachieved or maybe we just place high expectations. Still though; something has to break within this organization

The local media is easy on Tomlin because they don't want to lose access. If they start asking the hard questions the team will simply revoke their press passes. It's hard to be a sports reporter when you have no access to the subjects for interviews and story material.

he leaves here for any reason fired/retired/walks away.. he is probably the hot commodity in the entire nfl the next day. I don't get it

So? Let him go be someone else's disappointment

I would disagree.

I think the fans of this area would much rather prefer another Mark Madden type to another lockstep reporter.

I mean who really needs access to the locker room to get clips of players saying the same ol **** every week?

Mark Madden? Are you kidding me? My radio station gets turned the second that blowhard douche comes on the air. One Mark Madden is more than enough.
