The Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said this week that Ryan Shazier has already been ruled out for next season due to his spinal injury that comes with a very long road to recovery. While nothing is more important than Ryan’s ability to live a full and healthy life outside of football, we as fans are […]

Matakevich Is a poor mans Williams. I think his name even being mentioned is Colbert just being politically correct. He doesn't fit what they want in pass coverage. I like his run stuffing ability. But not enough to feature him.

Timmons is a run stuff. I dont know. If they want more than a stop gap its probably Evans from Bama. Thing is Shazier was injured because of what he is. A fast undersized backer that can really cover but has to launch himself to stick a guy. I dont think there are many big durable guys who can cover anything like that.

The scheme needs to change some. They just don't have the talent to cover the way they want to. Hell they can't even stop.the run. That shoyld be tops on the list. With the defense they run those sacks always start to dwindle by late in the season and go poof by the playoffs. I really think they need a beast in the middle. Crush the pocket from the inside. What's Big Snack doing? Is Joel Steed in shape?

move to a 4-3 slide Dupree to LE Heyward to 1T Hargrave as 3 T and rotate Tyson and chick and add a speedster hybrid rusher, draft a guy like Evans to play weakside and your LB's are Watt Williams and Evans and for depth add timmons.

50 is UN-REPLACEABLE.

IMO, Rasheed Evans is the best draft solution, if he's available - and that's me talking w/o my homer hat on. Bama runs a defensive scheme very close to ours - so, there's that...

Evans is the logical pick., but before I'd sign off on him, he needs to work out. If he does not work out well, I'll take Vander Esch over Evans.

For me Evans level of competition and performances when it counted the most, gives him the edge.Safe pick IMO

Vander Esch. Then draft another ILB and an OLB along with safety.

Sure 50 is replaceable. I thought that Woodson, Lloyd, Lambert, etc. were replaceable, but they all were.

We need to sign Timmons, if he can pass a physical, as an insurance policy. He is better than everyone on our roster other than maybe (and that's a big maybe) VW. Then we have to hope Evans or Van Der Esch are sitting there when we pick. Most recent mocks since the combine that I have seen are showing them going before our pick. If that is the case, I don't know of another ILB in the draft that can come in and significantly contribute in year one. We would be screwed up the middle once again.

Competition I can give you but the tape shows Jarvis Jones 2.0. His sacks are many someone else getting there and not being able to finish and him getting a mop up sack or a total blown assignment by the offensive line. He’s good in run defense but he’s a 236lb thumper.

He is a ILBer I am not looking for him to sack the QB. I am looking for him to cover and play the run.

And Im willing to live with cover ok. 50 was one of the best in the business. You arent getting that in the top of the round. But the need to shore up the run stop. Ypu cant give up both. I think our corners are ok. They need to upgrade safety for sure
But I still think if they improve v. Run they are good.
