We resigned Moats and Spaeth and tendered our scrub guys.

1. We need to sign either a FA pass rusher or a FA starting corner. The other will be had in rd 1 of the draft. My options to consider ( Orakpo, Morgan, Brandon Browner, Adrian Clayborn). Sheard does not have much of a pass rush,. so he doesn't really work for what we need.

-Clayborn and Orakpo are always hurt. Both could be interesting if the deal had incentives. I like Moragn too, but I think he signs somewhere today or tmrw
-Brandon Browner...best cb left out there I think. Would be a nice get, but I hear he may sign today or tmrw

Our pass rush may look worse than last year....yikes!!!

I don't expect any action today from the Steelers. I think they will start their bargain basement shopping later in the week and bring in a couple 2'nd and 3'rd tier guys like last year. That's what we do. I'm sure they already have their guys all picked out that they want to bring in.

Where we stand?

ha ha - right where we started

Here's one guy I would like to get back...

New Orleans Saints' Keenan Lewis: 'Time to take my talent somewhere else'

CB Keenan Lewis unhappy, wants #Saints to guarantee contract or let him go

Lewis has base salaries of $1.8 million, $4.25 million and $4.75 million in the final three years of his contract, and the Saints probably wouldn't be receptive to guaranteeing all $10.8 million of his remaining salary.

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ss...is_time_to_take_my_talent_somewhere_else.html

.

I would like to have Keenan back but what are we going to trade with? Maybe they'll take Cortez and his inflated contract. Just kidding! Wishful thinking though. I can't see the Steelers giving up a draft pick when they need to re-load from the draft.

I already mentioned Lewis before, but apparently to trade him costs NO 2.5 mil against their cap. That's against the cap. NO is cap strapped. Not sure they would want to incur dead money on the cap. Now, if they are offered a decent draft pick...well.maybe they would. If I am the FO I would at least offer a 5th and see what NO says. Strangely, NO is bringing Browner in for a visit I think.

Lewis is still young enough, with the need large enough at CB, I'd consider offering the Saints a 3rd or 4th round pick for him.

As for the Steelers relative inaction to this point, it was pretty much expected. It's how the Steelers roll.

Rooney did say we will upgrade pass rush and back end. We can't do it all through the draft. I guess if we drafted and edge rusher in rd 1 and grabbed a corner in rd 2, that would do it, but that's a big if.

Keenan has be put off right now because of his "Revis-attitude"; but, you're all right - the FA pickings are VERY SLIM in the areas we need help.

I, for one, think Sheard is the sleeper we need - he's tattooed Ben numerous times that I can remember and don't forget - we have a new DC, who maybe able to be more creative w/ the younger/new players (???)...

I was just looking at our roster and I just realized that W. Gay is 30 - with McCain possibly in the wind - our DB problem is a HUGE one. Take a look from www.steelers.com:

Now here's a fit that makes a ton of sense: former Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams is scheduled to visit the Steelers on Friday, per source

We never make a splash early in FA. This is nothing new. Late this week or next week and you might have something.

Lots of guys still out there.

Here is rotoworld's updated FA list:

http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/51589/309/2015-nfl-free-agents

The only real "problem" position is defensive backs, where those guys are being gobbled up pretty quick.

We can still re-sign Heyward-Bey to be a special teamer and #5 receiver.

Plenty of running backs that might be nice compliments to Bell: Williams, Bush, McFadden, Mareno, Thomas

Still lots of edge defenders to add depth to the position: Sheard, Schoolfield, Morgan, Ayers, Harrison, Spencer, Acho

It's the potential issues at safety and corner that are cause for concern (assuming Polamalu retires/released by end of week).

Not a lot to choose from without issues....

Why would N.O, get rid of a Cheap starting CB? There's nothing, literally nothing out there on FA near his play level that cut cost them less or even the same.

They should guarantee his contract, they are still making out like bandits

I'm surprised us or anyone else hasn't made a move for Greg Hardy yet, he was absolutely dominate before his incident. Now would be the perfect time to get him cheap too.

Maybe he shouldn't have signed the contract if he didn't like it.

Not sure the Rooney's would want to bring him in. Also not sure if he still faces league punishment. He was on the inactive list and paid for last season. The fuhrer may want to further punish him. If he gets overlooked and is still out there in another week or two, maybe, but not sure he can play OLB. We're good at DE with Tuitt & Heyward.

I, for one, think Sheard is the sleeper we need

you snooze you lose

Pats picked him up for 2 yrs / $11M

Sign De/OIBClayborn @ Morgan( incentive ) laced deal, RB Roy Helu JR CB Browner 2 year deal, Will Allen 1 year @ DT Dan Williams to replace Cam

No big loss not grabbing Sheard, overrated and inconsistent in the pass rush. Mainly a backup for four seasons in Cleveland.

They still have Antwon Blake also I guess the roster for some reason is not picking up RFAs.

But they are down one starter CB one aging SS two OLBers

and have addressed fricking nothing

I am not suggesting they break the bank. But there is teams signing players to friendly contracts while Tombert is sitting on their hands.

This wasn't the year IMO to filter thru the garbage. Our teams D has obvious holes, and we should see a fricken aggressive gameplan.

So far what I see is leaving me unimpressed.

If they would have resigned Brice and dumped Allen I might have been like well there is something. But the something I see is holding onto flops while your starters fly the coop.

We never make a splash early in FA. This is nothing new. Late this week or next week and you might have something.

This is true I see us bring back Harrison and going hard in the first two rounds for OLB. I also feel we will be watching Culliver, Cox, Browner and Cromartie and see who if any are still there in a week and make a play for one on the cheap. I also feel rounds 3-5 we could still get us a darn good CB to be ready in a year or so.
