When did the Steelers ability to block and tackle diminish?

Maybe it's because Tomlin has been too harsh in practices and the player's bodies are hurting.

Maybe it's because we have drafted too many china doll types who can tackle well and hit hard but are taking safer paths to the ball carrier.

Or maybe it's because the team has overlooked these fundamentals when evaluating players for the draft.

It could also be a lack of leadership and pride.

Add your own reasons, the team is going nowhere until this problem is addressed, and it's a team problem on offense, defense and-and occasionally on special teams.

When did Aaron smith retire?

I'll raise ya a Casey Hampton, Ike Taylor, James Farrior, and Prime James Harrison.

We miss McClendon, and he was below average. But he'd be our best NT run stuffing interior DL player on the team.

Our DB's have tackling issues too. Burns and Davis.

And Keisel, Hampton, Ike, Clark, Troy,Deshea, Farrior, Hoke, Woodley, that's when. Replaced with a bunch of jabronies.

The cryboys defense was the best tackling team I've seen all year. Made me jealous to say the least.

Dallas' O=line is also the best I've seen all year. They wrecked our front 7.

So basically when Cowher's guys that he and Colbert drafted and that he helped coach up left?

Well Thomas, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck. And for all the Tomlin lovers this is not a bash the coach post. Its just stating the obvious since I don't lve in my fears.

Well surely it's on the players to execute

When did the Steelers ability to block and tackle diminish?

About the same time Keith Butler took over as DC.

As the transition was made from the great defenses of the early and mid 2000s to the current group. A different type of players and a group that didn't trust into LeBeau's system. There is some individual talent on the defense, but they don't play as a unit. They haven't for years.

it has been 36 days since the Steelers last won... so, um, 36 days?

They didn't do this under the last coach we had....just saying. We're pretty damn fragile as well at LB. James Harrison not included. Every time I see him working out it's alone. Those guys should be training together as a unit. Just like they should all be tackling&blocking in practice. They need to set the standard of what's acceptable as a Steeler defensive player. The coaches can't help that.Only the players. Just my 2

It's obvious,................1st hint...........Changing of the guards....
If you need more than that, I suggest you enroll in my $1,300.00 football 101 class given each off season at a park near you !!

Their DC is a no-nonsense, intense guy, who keeps things simple. Hmmmm, I wonder if we can learn anything from him?

How many people on here complained that Troy was a ****** tackler? A lot. Just sayin'...............

Me for one, but Troy has two Super Bowl rings. Troy probably had seasons with more INT's himself than this whole team gets.

POOR anology as TROY had so much more UPSIDE than these current guys missing tackles !!!!!

Troy a hitter. I remember in 2005 against the Bears he had the ball carrier wrapped up and slid off of him lol. Troy was the man though. Once Clark came along he was able to do more

Sure but the thread is about poor tackling. Many on here complain about everyone and anything, even a HOF'er like Troy and Ben.

How many warriors do the Steelers really have on defense?

How many warriors do the Steelers really have on defense?

Losing sucks, but when you get pushed around on defense its worse. Our front seven gets pushed around.

How many warrior do the Steelers really have? Harrison for sure, but he's a very old warrior. Timmons, but he's slowing down too. Williams is one, and he needs to play more. I just wish he could cover a bit better. Heyward for sure, but he's out for the year. And that's about it for the defense.

Next season Timmons and Harrison are not likely Steelers.

When Cowher took over, his first draft was Searcy, Kirkland, Steed. Then he found a playmaking safety in Perry later in the draft and addressed a luxury need with Gammon as the long snapper.

Suddenly the toughness was back, and we had a DB capable of making turnovers, with special teams blunders eliminated.

As much as we need pass rushers and DB's who can make plays on the ball, I'd love our next draft to be something like this.

Use the 20 million in free agency for a proven edge rusher, and playmaking DB.

Heyward, Timmons, Deebo, and Gay.
Deebo will certainly retire again, his contract is up. Timmdong, I'm not sure of his contract status, he's not bad but has slowed down and isn't worth what they're paying him so he gets cut.

I keep it simple. I only complain about the Head Coach and the Offensive Coordinator, when Arians was here. Nowadays, just the HC...... They're supposed to teach the players, so any faults on the players reflect directly on the coaches IMO.
