If Alex Smith is healthy, and has no real prospects as a starter (other than somewhere he might get killed), would you want to see us bring him in to backup Ben next year? He'd probably cost a decent bit for a backup, but he'd be far from the worst person you'd want to see trotting onto the field if Ben couldn't go. There may be better guys available, but they might not want to sit behind Ben

I see no need. They still like Rudolph’s potential and they trust Duck as a backup. I don’t see why you would add a veteran. If they do add a QB, I’m thinking it would be either a young free agent or a draft pick.

Duck has played well but I don’t think he has the arm strength to be a starter. He’s a decent Bruce Gradkowski type backup though. When you keep 3 QBs, you want your starter, plus a solid backup, which would be Duck, and you want a developmental guy, that’s still Rudolph.

unless they find a better developmental prospect than Rudolph, I think they keep him again. Without a 1st round pick, can they afford to spend a pick on a QB in round 2 or 3? I don’t think so. They need a RB for sure because Conner is unreliable and Snell is just a grinder. They can use a TE. They may also have to start drafting OL because these guys are getting old.

I could want in one hand and **** in the other but I seriously doubt free agent QB will be on their want list. Unless they are shipping Rudy off. But that is highly unlikely.

I like Alex as a backup. But not going to happen..........

No need. We have Duck, MR and even Lynch (who really knows what potential he has). There's a 2 and a 3 out of that bunch.

NO Smith in this window of the future. To big of needs on offense. Our D is near set and we just need to retain players. It's the offense's turn for FIRST rounders.

Not this year...

One DC writer posted something on Twitter (May have been his wife) about Alex’s recovery process, and that due to the amount of surgery and rehab he’s had performed, he’s quietly been advised by his own orthopods not to play. His age also is a factor IMO. It’s to bad for him, he was really balling under the younger Gruden before his injury.
