Kelley steps up after stepping in. After watching the National squad's first two drives end via an interception and a punt, Kelley stepped in to spark the offense on his way to earning game MVP honors. He completed 9-of-13 passes for 68 yards during a 19-play drive that ate up 9:04 of game time and ended with a field goal heading into halftime. Following a fumble recovery by the National team late in the third quarter, Kelley found Arkansas tight end Blake Kern on a completion that turned into a 47-yard score. In the fourth quarter, with his team down by seven, Kelley orchestrated a seven-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by Coastal Carolina RB Shermari Jones' five-yard touchdown trudge. Lewis elected to go for two and Kelley, looking as comfortable as he had all night, found Indiana TE Peyton Hendershot for what turned out to be the game-winning points. Kelley's final stat line read 12-of-17 for 150 yards and a score.

Cole Kelley, quarterback: Southeast Louisiana

Perhaps no one player took more advantage of their opportunity than Cole Kelley. That was indicated by him winning the game’s MVP. Kelley completed 12 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Kelley also led the National team to what would be the game deciding score.

Kelley showed poise late in the game, making key throws to put his team in position to win. In addition, Kelley did a tremendous job of managing situations as well as making great throws with his arm.

Late in the game, Kelley found Arkansas tight end Blake Kern for a 47 yard touchdown pass and Indiana tight end Payton Hendershot for the go ahead two-point conversion.

Kelley measured in at 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds. He throws a solid catchable ball. Kelley knows when to throw with velocity and when to threw with touch. He has good feel and can escape pressure to extend plays.

Kelley can be statuesque in the pocket and his release is low. Those could be reasons the Arkansas transfer is on the outside looking in when it comes to the 2022 NFL draft. Kelley has a good arm but not elite. He participated in the Hula Bowl and will need the entire process to prove himself draftable or as a priority free agent.

That big...remember Dan McGwire? That certainly doesn't mean this kid would be that, he surely won't go in the first round like McGwire.

Can you be too big for the position?

he's 20 pounds heavier than Benjamin was when drafted.
Could be muscle?

certainly an interesting prospect.

I would be hesitant to take a FCS QB in the first 3 rounds of the draft. I would use this draft to build the offense up, and look for a franchise level QB in 2023.

Yeah, I think that way as well. Somebody in this draft is going to be a really good QB. Might be Pickett, or Ridder, or Strong, or Willis, or possibly Corral.

It just will not be more than one of those guys and the other four teams are stuck giving the others a chance to fail - which they will. Very few teams do what the Redskins did and admit making a mistake with an early selection of a QB and cut him loose.

I'm absolutely not saying to take this dude early. maybe late.

No

If he is available in the 7th it wouldn't irk me to give him a look.

I have no issues taking a QB 5th round or later. He probably won't make the team, and if he does he'd almost certainly be the practice squad guy or the 3rd QB, but,hey... maybe they get lucky.

I just don't want them wasting early draft picks or a ****-ton of cap space on a guy that might be here for a couple years and do nothing more than maintain Mike's ******* non-losing season record.
