Welcome to Pittsburgh, Jesse James

He's a big dude!

Great value in the fifth!! He's was ranked like 9th on best of the rest post by 81

I hope he's not another Matt Kranchick

Also still have Blanchflower on the PS, who a lot of sites listed as a potential sleeper from last year's draft. I guess he's still sleeping....

About where I thought he'd go. Has upside so let's get him in camp and see if he can develop. If he does maybe he saved us having to use a 1st or 2nd on tight end in 2 years.

I gotta say, I'm REALLY liking the draft.

a tall TE from Pa. (Penn State)
with my height and name

love it!

PSU fan who's been to many of "The Outlaw's" games...I honestly see a lot of Matt Spaeth in him.

Tall target, decent blocker, but more of a wall and zone guy than someone who is going to blow a defender off the line. I think he has better athleticism than Spaeth and he uses that to slip behind zones / defenders effectively, but he's shown the "ability" to drop catch-able balls. I've had a recurring joke with a friend of mine some throws "just weren't highlight worthy of catching" for him because that's the only justification for the drop.

In any case, for a 5th rounder I think he's a legit NFL player with strong possibilities of starting...whether he turns into anything more than that only time will tell.

For your viewing pleasure:

Much better than Spaith. He has a lot of upside. watching Heath for a year or two and he will be where we need him to be.

The James Gang rides again!

He already can block and has red zone target size so thats a great addition

If I were to try to get in Colbert's head, I'd say this is why he is a Steeler right now. Everybody knows we can't score in the red zone, so why not pick up a 6'7 TE with the best some of the best SPARQ measurables at his position?

I think his upside is way better than spaith... He's a way better receiver... Very strong... We'll be great on third down with our running game he'll be one on one with a linebacker and he can win that matchup.

Ben likes his tall receivers

I know it's a weak draft class for TE's so Jesse may not be Tony Gonzalez # 2, but if this guy can do enough things in our system like be a big red zone target and block he'll be a nice acquisition. Start grooming him in camp with some passing drills and work on softening those hands.

all he has to do is remove the need for a pricey vet like Spaeth and he is an instant positive

Think he's saying he'll be more than just a Spaeth replacement.

Maybe James and Branchflower both step up and allow Spaeth to get on with his life's work.

Here's the film I watched vs. UCF.

He has WAY more upside than Spaeth. I think it a huge mistake to think we just got a replacement for Spaeth over his rookie contract. He's much better in the pass game than Spaeth ever was.

Oh I agree, im just saying that for what spaeth brings, replacing him at a lower price is a win, if the guy is as good as everyone thinks and actually gets a shot, that's another win altogether
