Week 5 College Football

Unusual week because it will virtually be finished before Saturday with Penn State playing Maryland at 8 Friday night.

12 Penn State at Maryland 8 PM Fox Sports
Would have been bigger if MD hadn't gotten handled by Temple. PSU has a huge alumni base in the DC/MD area so it will be interesting to see how many PSU fans vs MD fans are in the stadium. Maryland is going all in. I heard they actually cancelled classes today at MD and have declared this a "Blackout" game.

The MD football fan is fickle. I bet it would have been rocking if they hadn't lost to Temple. But after that game, many fans may have sold their tickets to PSU fans. We'll see

Penn State coming off a Bye. They have been up and down in their first 3 games. Both the offense and defense struggling at times while looking dominant at others. QB Sean Clifford has been erratic. We'll see if the bye week helped.

Maryland has Va Tech transfer QB Josh Jackson running their spread. Interesting note. The PSU kicker who hit from 57 vs Pitt and kicks every kickoff out of the endzone is a transfer from Va Tech as well. They didn't offer him a scholarship. How freaking stupid.


Other less important games

Northwestern at 8 Wisconsin -
Wisky probably stomps them but NW is like Pitt in that they usually pull 1 big upset per year. Wisky is flying high after curb stomping Michigan so maybe they overlook this game


Rutgers at 20 Michigan Noon on BTN
I only mention this game because i'm waiting to see the line to bet on Michigan. Harbaugh is a a first rate douche. Mich sees NJ as an important recruiting ground. I think Mich will try to run it up against mostly hapless Rutgers.


18 Virgina at 10 Notre Dame 3:30 NBC
I haven't seen VA play yet. ND did better than I thought vs Georgia.

21 USC at 17 Washington 3:30 Fox
USC's starter was lost in week 1 (or 2) but the backup has looked really good and they have rallied. Everybody thinks HC Clay Helton is gone after this year. USC playing well in the Us against the world mode.

5 Ohio State at Nebraska 7:30 ABC
big name matchup but Nebraska is not having the breakout year many expected under Scott Frost. Probable blowout.
 
Good game for PSU. Huge improvement on the OL and the QB Clifford was much quicker in his reads, both passing and in the option.

Joey Porter Jr got some late game playing time for PSU at CB and nearly had an INT.

Interesting anomaly for many PA sports fans as Penn State, the eagles and steelers do not play on the weekend. Eagles played Thursday, PSU Friday and Steelers on Monday.
 
I thought they looked excellent. Best game they have played in a while. Only knock is the INT Clifford threw. That ball hung up there forever. DB made a great play or that’s a TD.

Not sure what happened to Maryland. Crushed a ranked Syracuse team then lost to Temple and then got embarrassed at home last night.
 
Definitely looked better but I still don't like that style of O. Clifford is now becoming the entire O. He shouldn't be running more than his RB's and he has some good ones to hand it to. Hopefully, he will learn how to balance that out or the O-line will learn how to open holes for the RB's so he will hand it off to them and not feel he has to keep it.
 
Go Hawkeyes! See you in a few weeks Penn St. Gonna be a great matchup if both teams continue on their current trajectories.
 
Chase Young is the best player in college. Dolphins should pick him #1 overall then trade back up to get their QB with a second 1st rounder.

Ohio State should be #1 in the next poll.

I would be surprised to see them leap over Bama and Clemson. I think I would put Bama at 1, Ohio State at 2, and Clemson at 3

i agree... their coach said the longer the game goes the best team usually wins and Clemson has a better team. I still think OT at least gives you more of a fighting chance

That just sounds stupid, who cares how fresh their bench is, u only got a couple more series to go in OT. Terrible decision and even worse play call for the attempt, one of Baker's roll right with nowhere to go options, lose ground **** plays, unreal

Couldn't agree more, even if they get the 2pt conversion. there was still enough time on the clock for them to beat you with a FG. made know sense. wasn't like there was only 10 sec left in the game
 
I see Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, and even a over looked Auburn before Ohio State, beating Nebraska please everyone has beaten Nebraska

No, it was the right call. Tie it up and best case is you go to a shootout OT with Clemson. Their best chance to win was going for two and taking the lead late in the game. You don’t pull huge upsets playing it safe.
 
I thought it was a horrible call. These guys played their heart out. You're going to risk it all on one play? Against the best defense in the country? Not a chance. Take it into OT and see what happens. I'm not losing a game over one play.
 
UNC is no joke. Was expecting Clemson to blow them out.
 
I don't know if Ohio State is No.1 or not but Chase Young and Jeffrey Okuda are bad ***!!!
