I figured Gentry would need to really come on strong to be the back up but nothing I’ve read has been positive. Xavier Grimble isn’t doing much better so far. That leave Vance as the only option and with his injury history I don’t feel comfortable going into the season like this.

Option perhaps. Nick O’Leary isn’t flashy but gets the job done. He’s 3rd on the depth chart with Miami with a couple of others in the mix to be the number 3. Might get him for next to nothing and would be an immediate improvement.

I haven’t read anything about him in camp. I had some hopes Bucky Hodges would be that #2 guy but they cut him. Gentry from what I have read has brick hands and if it’s not a vertical seam route he can’t get open. I liked O’Leary coming out of college as that high floor but low ceiling kind of guy. Mark Bruner but with better hands and route running.

It all hinges on the health of McDonald. If he can shake off the injury prone label and stay healthy they will be fine. Grimble is a capable #2. If McDonald misses a significant amount of games as he has done in the past, they'll be in some trouble.

Doubt they'll start the season this way and will be picking from the scrap heap.

Anyone other than O'Leary that may be there?

It was just 1 practice but Christian Scotland Williamson was the one that That got the most downfield passes last night. He looked good

Yep. I said this weeks ago. They will make a move for te depth by end of preseason. Likely after cuts.

To expand on that, Tomlin has remarked glowingly about CSW. Still think we need to pick up a decent FA/cut.

Troy Fumagalli is on the bubble with the broncos taking Fant. Missing fingers and is a good story but was very good at Wisconsin.

Richard Rogers is a reliable #2 with decent hands and good blocker. Stuck behind a couples studs in Philadelphia.

Isaac Nauta was a 7th round pick and doing well in camp but Detroit has James and first round pick hockenson in front of him minimum and a full arsenal at TE.

Probably a few more I’m missing.
