Jordan DeFigio, @fidgenewton SteelerNation.com   “We are not a Big Ten team playing a MAC opponent,” Pittsburgh Steelers*head coach Mike Tomlin said of their upcoming game against the*Jacksonville Jaguars. Maybe he said it because there are no easy wins in the NFL. Maybe he said it because his team has historically struggled against the Jaguars, […]

Going into Tomorrow, the Steelers have 7 games left. This Jacksonville game is beyond critical to set up the final stretch. They had best not be giving lip service to us and better have been prepping like heck to dismantle this team.
The Jaguars are a 1-8 team with a pretty bad defense, and a pedestrian offense that doesn’t score a lot. More importantly, however is that they are an AFC team from the division our entire division must play.
Winning Sunday puts us at 10-0. We have a rather unexpectedly tough end of the year schedule coming up… The ravens, the defensively excellent Colts, the third best afc team in the Bills at their place, Division Rival Bengals and Browns on the road… with 8 other AFC teams at 6-3 or better, 9-0 isnt the playoff lock it would be in most seasons, even with a seventh teams making it in… at 10-0 the math gets a lot simpler…. It allows for a slip up or two without any real fear of an epic collapse happening…. It also gives us a chance to slam the division door shut Thursday

If we want to make a long run in the playoffs, the Bye and home field all the way through would be great, but winning the division is a near must.
Obviously, the Jags game isn’t as critical to us as the Ravens, Bengals, or Browns games are, or even the Colts game, for that matter, but for winning the division its theoretically more important than the Buffalo game (though that game is more important for the top seed) and of those games it should be the most winnable by far.
If we were to win against Jacksonville, then all the pressure for the Thanksgiving game is on the Ravens. This will be even more true if they drop the game against the Titans on Sunday. If we win Sunday, then take care of business at home vs the Ravens, its very possible the Ravens could be virtually eliminated from the division. If we lose twice this week, the division becomes a wide open crap shoot down the stretch with a less than favorable schedule for us…
Win this week, coupled with a ratbird loss would put us at 10-0 and them at 6-4, losing vs us Thursday basically puts them 5 games back with 5 games to go and no way to beat us head to head so they are out of the division race even in a three way tie…
Even with a Ratbird win vs the titans, they would be four games back with a loss to us Thursday with 5 to play and their only path forward would be us losing out and them winning out
Now if we were to lose vs the Jags, then a loss to the ravens leaves the door open to both them and the browns passing us in the division race should we falter down the stretch

The Browns play an eagles team better than their record and without sir-whacks-a-lot Miles Garrett for at least this week. It would be nice if they lose, but that isn’t something we should be relying on… beating the Jags and the Ravens gives us a minimum 3 game lead o the Browns with 5 games to go. Not ideal especially if we lose out on the bye and want to rest starters in that last game of the year…
Beat the Jags, and the back end of the schedules gets way more manageable… lose, and we are all hanging onto our butts

if we beat the Ravens we have the divisional tiebreak essentially. Browns have lost to the Rats and us I don't see them beating either this year, but we might be resting starters week 17.

10 wins was the mendosa line to make the playoffs before 7 teams were in each conferece. now with 7 and possibly 8 on a covid shortened season, We are already in the playoffs. This team is playing like a 1 seed and is playing for the 1 seed. We no longer have to gameplan for other teams. Other teams have to gameplan for us. There isn't a team that can stop our empty set or 01 sets with 4 receivers and Ebron. Not one team can match up to that. On D, we are diverse enough, getting healthy, and you will all see what a difference Mike Hilton will be to our running game. He's a weapon.

This game won't be close, and Ravens are beat up, and coming in off a short week. They have to beat Tennessee, who knows how to play LJ. This is a very tough game for them. I would not be surprised if they lose on Sunday, making Thursday essentially a division clinching game. In Pit, with no tackles, LJ is going to be running for his life. We are the team to beat. Not the other way around anymore boys!

I'm in the boat of not overlooking this team. OUR boys are a lot more focused than ever in the past. They will play and win along with Coaching holding up their end of the stick as well.

I want the Steelers to have another blowout win like last week

Those sure are nice for the blood pressure, eh?

Im just taking the totally cynical route this year... ill be worried about this game till we win it... terrified of the WTFs even though the game really shouldn’t matter much, and all the division games, and the other two division leaders....

Its very possible that a ten win team misses the playoffs even with a 7th team in the afc this year... I don’t really believe it will be us, mostly because the Titans win and their trajectory means they likely are the first of two good afc teams left out.... i dont think Cleveland, Baltimore, Vegas, and miami all will surpass us even if we utterly collapse... But a win tomorrow really slams all those scenarios Just to be safe

Kc has a really really rough schedule down the stretch... if we win tomorrow and they lose to vegas, then buffalo might be the bigger threat to hfa...

I don’t think that we will go undefeated.... but if we are going to drop a game, id rather it be later For a lot of reasons...

I want them to reestablish a real running game.

I want them to reestablish a real running game.

Was checking out the Jaguars' defensive stats and minus the Falcons & Giants, they've given up the most yards through the air in the league. And opposing QB passer rating is off the charts good. That said, they're also giving up a healthy 4.4 YPC on the ground.

In other words, the offense should have a field day - but those jagoffs always seem to play us tough.

Honestly that’s probably the best way to lose... they don’t have one... its not the time to try to get one... run and shoot the rest of the way...

You are probably right BUT.................... Read on...

I agree with yaz Steelworth. If the TEAM tries to re-establish the run, this is the team to try it on. The Jags are lower end all the way around and if the experiment starts to fail we can fall back on other things that will work. PATIENCE will be needed but we will prevail no matter how we decide to attach.
