Vance McDonald’s Future with the Pittsburgh Steelers

TE is going to be a tough find in the draft this year. NO WAY I waste a 2nd rounder on a dribble drabble TE...perhaps trading a pick for OJ Howard or David Njoku (that conditional 3rd round pick) would be a better option???
Always have liked OJ. I would love that trade..

Vannett I would bring back. McDonald I let walk, too injury prone and not enough production.

This. The Vanimals occasional production doesn't warrant his salary and we'lll need the cap room for Dupree. Vannett is solid, especially considering how we use TEs - its not like they are a focal point of the offense or anything.

So you're saying that it's the amount he is used vs his salary. Not his unavailability.

Howard has been injured a lot and I'm not sure what happened with Njoku after his injury this year. He came back and played in a game and then was pretty much benched for the final 2 games. I heard something about him dropping a pass in his 1st game back might have been the reason but 1 dropped pass after being injured shouldn't get someone benched. As long as he is healthy and the reason for the benching is nothing serious, Njoku would be a steal for a 3rd.

If Ben is fully recovered, you want to have McDonald. He's a weapon if Ben is throwing.
He was but even when they used him with Rudolph and Duck, he had a couple drops (did before as well) and he wasn't beating his 1 on 1 coverage. He should have been getting wide open with so many men in the box trying to stop the run. If he's back, hopefully he goes back to his old form.

No, I should have included his injury status, just figured it was self-evident I guess. I like the player and he brings a dynamic element to the position we don't usually see on the Steelers but when you figure in injuries and lack of targets when he is on the field, I don't think you can justify his cap hit.

But its not self evident. He doesn't control his number of targets and he wasn't injured like you all act like. Again, if you want to dump someone based on injuries, drop Tuit. If we brought in OBJ, like the browns did, and didn't use him enough, like the browns did. You wouldn't say dump him because he didn't have enough targets, you would say "get him the damn ball!"

Jake butt is a big target that in a year could replace Vannett I think gentry is raw and 2 years away from contributing unless he adds more bulk and can contribute in the run game.
so retain Vance ask pay cut re sign vannett 1 year and he and gentry compete cant hurt to trade for Howard or butt.
most of this draft class is 1 dimensional te that are just receivers.

Vance had a high drop rate in SF before Ben was throwing to him. Having a HOF QB throwing the football makes all the difference in the world.
