Colts place Andrew Luck in concussion protocol

Set to face the Steelers just three days from now, the Indianapolis Colts have a major problem under center.

Coach Chuck Pagano announced Monday that quarterback Andrew Luck is mired in the league's concussion protocol on the heels of Sunday's 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Pagano told reporters that the head injury took place sometime in the fourth quarter, putting Luck's status in doubt for Thursday's Thanksgiving showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Colts are planning to start Scott Tolzien, a 29-year-old career backup with just two NFL starts to his name. Beyond throwing one pass last season for Green Bay, Tolzien hasn't seen regular-season action since 2013.

The severity of Luck's condition has yet to be determined, but it's extremely rare for a player to bounce back from a concussion during a short week. It's worth noting that Packers receiver Davante Adams entered concussion protocol after a Sunday game in Week 6 only to suit up for Green Bay's Week 7 appearance on Thursday Night Football. Head injuries, though, are a player-to-player proposition.

Luck in concussion protocol?

Is Luck in concussion protocol? If so, I doubt he'll be ready by Thursday. Most aren't cleared until the weekend, at best.

Well, we have a history of making backups look good.

That is exactly why this scares the Bejesus out of me; especially with an obscure name like "Tolzien." We just love making guys like this look like Dan Marino, circa 1984.

Little info on him. Appears to throw a good deep ball which could pose a threat.

Unfortunate for Luck and the NFL, which had a pretty nice looking game with the Steelers and Colts on Thanksgiving night.

Yep. CMT probably just gave the entire team AND the coaches the whole week off. "Show up a couple hours before game time fellas." Was heard from the Steeler's facilities as the news of Luck's concussion situation was announced...

After that local complaints from area residents were made about squealing tires.

If the NFL has it's way, it will push for Luck to play in that marquis matchup. Otherwise, the stars for the Colts aren't as bright. Can you imagine the NFL losing share on Thanksgiving? That would be a factor right there.

I dunno a large amount of Steeler fans will watch, and there is a lot of us.

Just like last year Steeler s finish off the season against a bunch of backups and squeak into the playoffs giving tomlin more time

Colts FS Clayton Geathers is in the league's concussion protocol.
Geathers joins teammate Andrew Luck there, and both are questionable bordering doubtful for Thursday night's Thanksgiving showdown with the Steelers. Geathers has been lights out in run support for the Colts.

I'm sorry- but would you rather the Steelers NOT be in the playoffs?

We were one fumble away from putting Denver away last year, and they happen to be the team that won the Suerbowl. I'll take my chances once we're in.

Lucky for us...
