Tuitt signs 61 million dollar extension

An expected move, but a very good one for the Steelers. Tuitt has been a key part of the defense and has been playing his best football this preseason. He also has the look of a future leader in the same mold of Heyward. Good deal.

6 years..I am curious how it breaks down. Outstanding !

I am glad of this news. I think barring injury, he has a great oppurtunity here in PITTSBURGH. Pretty impressive OFF season for the STEELERS. We will have to break it down once details are out. Front loaded and cap friendly I'll assume

Great move! I think highly of Tuitt and think this guys best years are still to come.
Next season we extend Shazier and Bryant. Most likely tag Bell again since he's going to be too difficult to sign.

Hell yeah! Great move, a lot of money is up front which is always good. What a great offseason for the front office. Well done Colbert and the financial genius Omar Kahn

It will be very similar to Heyward. Can't really complain. The guy can play football. Solid in the trenches player hopefully for us for a long time.

Our D Line is going to be a ***** to deal with when Hargrave hits his prime, which will hopefully be very soon.

"Potential" don't mean jackshit, you could get the same production they've shown from waiver wire cuts

So far none of the D line are worth even HALF that. Not an Aaron Smith, Keisel or Casey Hampton in the whole lot of them

That's Bell's contract, congratulations Mr Tuitt, his loss is your gain

According to Overthecap, only Mo Wilkerson, JJ Watt, and Jurrell Casey earn more at DL.

Sorry Steeler fans, Tuitt is not in their class. He might be one day, but its a guess. I think the Steelers over paid a bit here paying a very good player as if he was s great one.

We had the cap space, and maybe the Steelers know Ben will be leaving soon, or Bell will be leaving so Tuitt could have benefited from the situation.

Yeah.....I'm gonna have to kind of...disagree with you on that one.

The full Stephon Tuitt details

Steelers defensive lineman*Stephon Tuitt didn’t get a big contract as a rookie in 2014. He has one now, just as the last year of his first contract was set to begin.

Per a source with knowledge of the deal, here are the full details:

1. $11 million signing bonus;

2. $1 million base salary for 2017;

3. $2 million 2017 roster bonus due in three days;

4. $7.5 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2018 league year;

5. $3.5 million salary for 2018;

6. $3 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2019 league year;

7. $6 million salary for 2019;

8. $9 million salary for 2020;

9. $9 million salary for 2021;

10. $9.05 million salary for 2022.

Here are the highlights of the deal:

1. Tuitt was due to make $1.048560 this year; he’ll make $14 million instead.

2. He’ll make $24 million in new money over the first two years of the deal.

3. There’s no guarantee beyond year one, which is consistent with all Steelers long-term deals. However, they rarely cut a player who has signed a long-term contract after one year. If they do, Tuitt will have gotten $14 million for one year and an early trip to the open market, thanks to the early trigger on the roster bonus.

So if these numbers are right, Tuitt will count between $2.17M and $4.8M It comes down to the roster bonus. If it is deferred (which I don't think you can do) it would be the lower number. Otherwise the roster bonus counts for this year and the $4.8M number is solid. Now we're over $3M in cap space for emergencies. Perfect to start the season!!

The deal sounds very friendly. He deserves a nice contract but he best step it up a notch for that kind of money. I don't want to see him regress now that he has the money........ A.K.A. Mr.Woodley

This deal has not to do with Lev Bell. If he would've signed the Steelers offer he would still be making the same amount he's making on the franchise. Steelers spildve still had room for Tuitt.

But the Steelers have spread the.money around and likely at the expense of signing Bell next year. Only so much to go around.

It's a lot of money - let's hope he lives up Tuitt!
