Field rates just tweeted out…

“The Steelers converted $7.925M of DL Stephon Tuitt’s 2021 base salary into a signing bonus, creating $6.34M in 2021 cap space.

Even after the trade for Joe Schobert, Pittsburgh has good cap flexibility to operate throughout the season.”

Curious what they plan on doing with the cap space? I for one would be open to adding another CB and possibly a safety.

All it means is Watt's ginormous contract is forthcoming. We're not signing anyone else of significance.

Btw, this is why I never get worked up over the Steelers salary cap situation. With relatively minimal effort they've created tens of millions of dollars of cap space for this season.
Every year like clockwork.

Watts new contract probably eats the same cap hit he already has, 10M. Something is cooking, KC hasn't finished making moves and I smell either an OL (agree with Strykers last vidcast that it might be a C) or a vet CB.

I didn't get a chance to watch yet so are we talking trade because the UFA market is barren at both positions.

If we our FO and Watt's agent can't find any common ground I am good with Watt playing out this year on his 5th year option and then franchise tagging him for 2 years.

This is why I say a little "thank you" prayer every time Omar Khan is not hired as someone's GM.

I have a strong feeling it won't come to that.

Being the cosomit professional that TJ WATT is I would think he'd say get stuffed and sit.

My true "BACON GUT" feeling is they get the deal done and both sides are 100% good to go, least ways I H-O-P-E that's the case.

The more it drags out the more I would rather us not sign him long term. Just my opinion. We have control of him for three more seasons. At a decent price. Use the tags if you have to.

Get Watt signed now. If it comes to tagging him, that just going to be a distraction Watt and the team doesn't need. Cause you know media will keep bringing it up.

Watt is signed already. The tag wouldn't come into play until next season. He is simply holding himself out of practice at the moment.

I believe the new CBA removed the multiple franchise tag maneuver on one player. They can only be franchised exclusively once. The days of trading franchised rights for 2 first round picks on a player hitting FA is long gone as well. To much capital for one player (picks and huge contract).

Didn't we just tag Bell twice? Did they sign another CBA since? Damn I really haven't been following along as I once did. 😔

New CBA was approved, barely, in early 2020. It’s why we have a 17th regular season game now, two more playoff teams and players only get 14 padded practices during training camp. Oh yeah, they get more more money. 48+% of all revenue. NFLPA decision was contentious, with almost half of the players dissenting the CBA presented. As predicted, the younger players saw $ signs, while the veterans wanted more security from the league.
