Steelers 2025 Roster Predictions- Offense

Offense over the past few years has clearly been second fiddle to the D, Not only has there been significantly less money invested in it, it also has had fewer roster spots than the D.

Over the past 5 seasons, the offense has had 24.4 players kept on the initial roster.

The past two seasons, The team has only kept 24 offensive players coming out of camp.

Part 1: Quarterbacks

This is an easy position to Handicap.

The past 5 seasons the team has averaged 3 QBs coming out of camp. The past two seasons it was 3… logic says this year will be 3 too

  • Aaron Rodgers- Clear cut Starter – Roster Secure :QB1
  • Mason Rudolph- Clear cut Backup- Roster Secure: QB2
  • Will Howard- Almost certainly 3rd QB – Roster likely secure QB3

  • -Others with work to do:

  • Skylar Thompson- Potential PS or QB3 – Likely cut. May be kept on PS Only makes 53 man roster if injury concerns are present during camp.

Part 2: Running backs

This Position can go several ways

Total Rbs past 5 years- 4 Total Rbs past 2 years- 3

but a deeper breakdown goes:

Total HBs past 5 years- 3.4 Total Rbs past 2 years- 3

Total FBs past 5 years- 0.6 Total Rbs past 2 years- 0

So its likely with DJ Thomas-Jones injury, we don’t keep a listed FB

Im guessing With Patterson getting cut, there wont be a pure ST guy either

The play here is 3 RBs on the Roster

  • Jaylen Warren – Likely Starter, Roster Spot Secure – RB1
  • Kaleb Johnson- Possible starter, likely backup, Roster spot Secure-RB2
  • Kenneth Gainwell _Possible backup, Roster spot Likely-RB3

  • -Others with work to do:
  • Max Hurleman-
  • Evan Hull
  • Trey Sermon

Part 3: Wide Recievers

This Position has the most variables on O

Total Wrs past 5 years- 5.6 Total Rbs past 2 years- 5.5

In the past 5 years the fewest WRs kept was 5 and the most was 7

So lets say with the extra TEs, we are looking at a likely number of 5 WRs

  • DK Metcalf- Absolute Starter- Spot Secure - WR1
  • Calvin Austin 3 – Possible Starter or Slot, Spot Secure Likely WR2
  • Roman Wilson- Possible Slot Reciver, Spot likely secure-Maybe WR3
  • Robert Woods- Possible top Backup WR- Spot more likely than not- WR4
  • Ben Skowronek- ST ace Wr. Spot possible -WR5

  • -Others with work to do:
  • Scotty Miller-
  • Montana Lemonious Craig
  • Roc Taylor
  • Ke’Shawn Williams
  • Lance McCutcheon

Part 4: Tight Ends

This Position is likely Growing in importance this season

Total TEs past 5 years- 3.2 Total Rbs past 2 years- 3.5

In the past 5 years the fewest WRs kept was 3 and the most was 4

The guess here is 4 TEs are kept

  • Pat Friermuth- Starter 1a- Spot Secure - TE1a
  • Jonnu Smith – Starter 1b- Spot Secure TE1B
  • Darnell Washington- Top Blocking TE- Spot Secure- TE3
  • Connor Heyward- ST ace and H-Back /TE Utility guy, Spot Possible, TE4

  • -Others with work to do:
  • JJ GalBreath
  • (Unnamed Replacement for DJ Thomas-Jones)

Part 5: OL

This Position is Three merged positions in one

Total OL past 5 years- 8.6 Total OL past 2 years- 9

In the past 5 years the fewest OLs kept was 8and the most was 9

With the early injuries, 9 is a safe bet.

“Dylan Cook, Backup Tackle, OT4”

Good list, I would move Cook down with the work to do designation. They looked at him closer the other day and I have a feeling they are assessing if he is roster deserving.

Still thinking a vet T might be brought in. I am hoping so…

Berm endorses this list...

Thanks Mad.

Unless they being in another OL candidate like Bakhtiari, the only real decision seems to be TE4 vs WR6. Heyward vs Miller at this point, and it seems far more likely that Lil Heyward makes the grade.
The Steelers would be better squad if there was another WR or TE that could take this spot and be more productive on O/ST.

Definitely agree on 23 of 24

I think Cook is on the shakiest ground yielding his spot to a FA pickup. He’s been around a couple years now and yet to make the jump…maybe this is the year, but not holding my breath on it.

I think his spot is nabbed by a vet OL pickup or a possible WR6 if someone really shows out in camp/preseason.

I personally feel Calvin Anderson should be upgraded but that just comes from my personal assessment that the depth on the OL outside of McCullom seems very thin. I wouldn’t want him forced into a starting role with Cook as the “depth” behind him. Our QB is too old to play those sorts of games at tackle imo.

McCullom and Spencer Anderson as IOL depth is pretty decent, especially compared to the void at tackle depth.

Pretty much my own assessment as of now. The only question is 3 TE or 4 with Baby Heyward-he can wear many hats on the team. The WR situation is a curious one to me and probably the rest of the fanbase that pays attention. I like Skowronek. He’s a big boy who just plays the way we like Steeler receivers to play. If a WR2 is brought in it becomes a question of who what what position do you sacrifice for that? Honestly, if the league wants more games from teams, they should expand the rosters to 55 players. That would make life simpler
