So it looks like the Steeler management has a decision to make.

1. Keep beating their chest in pride that they have only had 3 coaches in 40 years. Keeping with the Mantra of tradition and the Steel town way. All the while letting Tomlin stay right where he is now and let him dictate when he leaves. Allowing him to coach himself and this team right into obscurity. All the while dragging this team to continual 8-8 seasons( in Big Bens prime years) and sniffing the playoffs once in a while making it there on sheer player talent and plenty of help from other teams only to be eliminated in round1. :dejection:

Or,

2.Stepping into the 21 century and realizing this team (especially the offense) has some serious potential and is close to being a championship contender and doing what it takes to guide the team to that Lombardi trophy. Even if that means making some hard decisions about the HC position and/or DC positions. :tape:

My guess is they will keep beating their chest about tradition for 40 years, the 6 they have already won and the immaculate reception.

( FYI - I am not a new guy I was on this board a while back but got deleted somehow so I had to re register)

If the Rooney's start losing money, that will trump everything. Look at Noll, turned a loser into the best franchise in history in 10 seasons, AFC title game in 84, should've beaten Denver in 89, so while there were down years in the 80's you're not getting rid of a legend. Cowher, playoffs, three AFC title games, a super bowl in his first 6 seasons with avg at best qb's. Totally rebuilt the team from 98-2000 then 3 more AFC title games, and a super bowl win once we got a real QB, so you're not booting him.

What they should do: #2
What they will do: #1

Did the Rooney's take not at how many Dallas fans were in stands, wait till we play a no one wants to see team and we see more empty seats.

Who we getting? I want a change but I struggle with is the grass greener?

gave some options in one thread, there is some good candidates out there.........

The Rooney's are acting like they don't give two ***** about the fans, when the Chief was alive it was all about winning. Maybe Tomlin is an OK coach, but sometimes a team may need change to get back to winning ways. your not talking about a team that continuously changes coaches, ten years is long enough to show your ****. Many people including myself wanted to see what would happen when Cowhers players were gone, Guess what we're seeing it. We won the super bowl one year removed fro Cowher, and we have won ONE ******* playoff since ONE ******* playoff win since the 2010 super bowl. with the offense we have thats a ******* problem.

I don't even know if we have enough time with Ben left to even fix this defense. Tomlin is destroying Ben's football legacy, Ben should have at least 2 more rings. Time for a shake up.

One of those options was the DC of the Minnesota Vikings. I'd be in favor of him definately.

Salute the nationb

I wouldn't extend Shades and make him play for his next contract.

I'd spend that cap on Defensive FAs next year. The window is now, and Steelers need a pass rushing OLB, solid DE backup, and Safety. Normally I'd add corner, but we've invested a lot in corners thus far, and I think they will do just fine with a better pass rush.

Pretty simple to me, you fire Kevin Colbert and bring in a new GM. The draft picks haven't got it done. This will put Tomlin on notice and hopefully they can get the right pieces in place before Ben is done and we fall off until our next franchise QB.

He may be the fall guy used to put Tomlin on notice, but the drafts are more on the head coach here than the gm anymore, ever since Cowher won the power struggle with donawho

I believe firing the GM puts the coach on notice. Most GMs want to bring in their own coach, we have a unique situation here in Pittsburgh but I would not say that Tomlin is fire proof. If ownership feels they need to switch coaches, I believe they will clean house. I think its a risky move with Ben getting towards the end of his career. This is why you replace Colbert and if the new GM can't bring in the right players you clear out Tomlin when Ben is done.

Doesn't matter. Those seats are paid for and there's a 20 year waiting list.
