Would you trade Pat for a 3rd?

He hasn’t done much here his entire career, falls short of 2nd round pedigree. Ben made him look good initially, but we haven’t had as near a talented QB since Ben retired.

Offensive game plan / scheme hasn’t been favorable to pass catching TEs.

I definitely think the Steelers would. They aren't using him or Jonnu very much. Just as long as they don't take all WR's off the field and use 3 TE's instead. I know they did that in the first 2 games, but haven't specifically noticed it since. Probably because the times I saw it, the plays were complete failures.

I would try and gauge interest from the Saints for Olave. If that doesn’t work then yes I would move him for a third.
A TE who cannot block and isn’t anything special with yards after catch I would move him and his salary off the books.
In the off season I’m moving the other jamoke Highsmith off the books as well.
I much prefer a budding star like Nicky Herbig over this guy who is nothing special.

Interesting. I get the feeling I am the only person that says no to this. Not for a 3rd. Have to sweeten the pot.
There have been many star pass catching TE’s in this league. Pat and Jonnu could easily be in that category.

We’ve been screaming for years to use the TE’s and middle more. And I’m not talking about the 2 yard passes.
I’ve heard for a couple years now how Arthur Smith loves to use the TE’s. I have yet to see it. We don’t even know who our QB will be next season (again). Experienced TE is a great option for a young QB. If they actually used these guys properly I think they would get the recognition.

We are 4 games in. It’s early. You’d have to think they will start to get more balls thrown their way.

Wait a minute...

You'd trade Highsmith, who is better at containing the edge and helps take more pressure of TJ when they're both on the field???

"Ok, bartender, give me whatever you're serving him!!!"

Yet we don't use it, why have a corvette in country road? Trade that **** for a gmc Sierra

I’d be tempted only because Jonnu is above Pat and Washington appears to be headed toward a potential long-term starting role with this team. I still think it’s crazy anyone thought any TEs in this offense would be a better option than a legit WR2.

Not a Highsmith guy one bit. Never have been.
He’s good at playing the run but that’s where it ends.
Nicky Herbig is a star in the making. A better pass rusher than Highsmith. Not even close. All Nicky is does is make plays. He’s all over the backfield!
TJ seems to do just fine thank you when Herbig is in there.
I’d like to see Herbig become the starter and move Highsmith in the off season especially if Jack Sawyer continues to improve.
Highsmith like Freirmuth not worth what they’re paying them. Both disappear in too many games.
That’s my take.

Freiermuth is worth a third imo. He had 65 receptions and over 700 yards his second season with Ben. Last year 60 something receptions with about 650 yards with moon ball and fields. Would you be happy with a third round pick giving you production like that with those two as your quarter backs. A team like KC, Cincinnati with Burrows or any team in the hunt would gladly part with a third if they needed a tight end especially one that’s young, under contract and can catch the football.

highsmith is a good rusher too, his problem is staying healthy, not a lack of talent.

I'll let you go find the stats on Alex's sacks/TFLs and QB pressures.

I don't see the negative you do when he's healthy he's a beast. I really like Herbig too but he's still learning and just a bit light in his britches to anchor the edge like Alex...

The thing with trading Feiermuth or Highsmith for a third, the Steelers have no idea what they’re getting in the third round. Look at many of the third round picks that are busts throughout the league. Both these guys are good players, if we’re talking trading either for a proven player at a position of need, I’m all ears.

Our next coach will. 🙂

Friermuth may be retired by the time we get a new coach……….. just saying.

Odds are we have Tomlin finish out his current contract, then a two year deal/extension in last year.

I’d say Alex anchors that edge every bit as good as TJ, don’t confuse though as TJ is the better player.

I like Herbig a lot, but about the time Highsmith’s contract is due……… you try to move him the year before.

Yep, can’t stay out of the trainer’s room.
See, I just don’t think he’s all that as a pass rusher. Good at playing the run but just never impressed me as a pass rusher.
You simply cannot keep Herbig on the bench for this guy. Disappears in too many games where Herbig seems to always be causing havoc.

They should use him instead, but if they're not then they may as well trade him. If the OL gets netter then Pat and Jonuu will start being used. Until then they need Washington to be an extra blocker.
