Top 5 steelers per position, the Centers and Guards!

This is an area where our talent was as good as any teams in the NFL.

Centers

1 ) Webster
2 ) Dawson
3 ) Mansfield
4 ) Pouncey
5 ) Hartings

Guards

1 ) Faneca
2 ) DeCastro
3 Wolfley
4 ) Courson
5 ) Haslirig

Will the season start already? Next up...pick the top 3 kickers. Then we move to defense.

lol coach.. wtf

neither is decastro or Pouncy...

You. Also left off Long, Wolfly, Courson

Terry Long wasn't that good. He's best known for being 5'11" tall and a tragedy off the field. He never made a pro bowl

Courson, I actually meet in a Steeler bar. His arms were still huge and he let me hold and try on his super bowl ring. A decent player, no more. I heard he passed a few years back too.

Wolfley was more of a personality type. No way is he better than Faneca or Pouncey...he'd even tell you that. Did Wofley even make a pro bowl? Faneca and Pouncey have.

Those are my votes. I'll average out those who voted though, so Long, Wofley, and Courson can make the cut.

You could argue Heff Hartings or Carlton Hasilrig but neither were on the team for a long amount of time.

Most of us forget, but Jeff Hartings deserves in the top 5. I have seen nothing from Pouncy that indicates he was better than Hartings. Although we only had his services for 6 years, he was top notch, having moved from OG - in Det - to C here.

I would also rate him above DD at this point (although that could change as DD has some of his best years ahead of him).

My list goes like....

1.) Dawson...on a pure performance matrix, I think he was the best of all; he was as good as Webster, but bigger. (6-2, 288 vs. 6-1, 255, big difference). Webster was going against much smaller D linemen.
2.) Webster..Hall of Famer, 'nuff said. Sadly, most likely suffered from CTE and the last several years of his life were very sad.
3.) Faneca..pro bowl after pro bowl, but left Pgh throwing molotov cocktails.
4.) Jeff Hartings...he was damn good and won us a ring.
5.) Craig Wolfley...Often forgotten because he was mostly on bad teams.

DeCastro and Pouncey could shove their way onto list, but not yet. They just haven't achieved stellar play for that many years. Putting on this list has to be by potential, not what they have actually accomplished so far.

1) Dawson- Lack of SBs doesn't take away from the talent
2 ) Webster - Blue Collar throwback
3 ) Faneca- Solid for a decent amount of time
4 ) Pouncey - Despite injuries he still gets the edge
5) DeCastro- Up and comer

Honorable mention: Hartings, Wolfley, Haselrig

Center: Web, Dawson, Pouncey, Hartings, Mansfield.
Guard: Faneca, Courson, Wofley, DeCastro, Mullins.

Sorry, we have had WAY too much talent at center to combine it with guard, so I made a list for each!

Courson, I actually meet in a Steeler bar. His arms were still huge and he let me hold and try on his super bowl ring. A decent player, no more. I heard he passed a few years back too.
Courson was killed in an accident when he was cutting down a tree on his property and it fell on him. I worked a charity event with him a year or two before and he was quiet but very nice.

1. Webster
2. Dawson
3. Faneca
4. Hartings
5. Kolb

DeCastro is very good but not been here long enough IMO, and Pouncey just isn't durable, bad luck or not.

Center. Dirt / Web / Haretings / Honorable mentions Mansfield & Pouncy. ...............Shawn Mahon

Guard. Faneca (our best) / Courson /. Honorable mention Wolfie / DeCastro................. ...............................................................................Jeremy Stephens (guard or tackle?)

Faneca may have bitched and moaned but he was our best guard ever.

Salute the nation

Yes, he was quiet, almost shy. But like you said a nice guy. Sad to see him go that way,

I forgot Mansfield. He was a pro bowl guy before Webster and should rate. Changing the title to top 5 centers and guards.
