By Brandon Wallace SteelerNation.com PITTSBURGH, PA – In Tuesday’s press conference with head coach Mike Tomlin, you could tell that the vibe was not to dwell on last Sunday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but to focus on the Oakland Raiders. Still, Tomlin finally elaborated a bit more as far as his thoughts […]

Later on in his press conference, he was asked specifically if he was able to get the matchups in coverage that he wanted. We of course already know the answer to that. “In some instances I didn’t, but that’s life”, he said. “It was no secret we were without Morgan Burnett and Cam Sutton, two of our core interior sub-package defenders”.

........

“There was going to be some smoke-and-mirror play, if you will, and it was”, Tomlin said of his efforts to compensate, which featured a lot of L.J. Fort and other linebackers in coverage. “But when you’re playing a guy like Philip Rivers, who has bigtime autonomy at the line of scrimmage, sometimes you run out of smoke”.

They simply lost to the chargers because it's in the friggin script. How many or there who still thinks football is real in the NFL. Come on, the refs just need to blow a call or two and that turns the game by 14 points resulting in Steelers lose Chargers win. If the Steelers are to much of a threat then they'll need to give them some loses. It's the Rams and Chiefs year, not the Steelers. Owners meetings are not for making the game better. It's for getting the story straight.

JEEPERS..............................This head coach is more about the stupid "tomlinisms" than the game and the "tomlonisms" are getting stupider as the season goes.

If you really want to talk scripts,

The logical "pre ordained plan" would be to give Phillip Rivers a SB. At least an appearance anyway. He's been one of the better QBs throughout his career, but of course the Bolts have never managed to get to the big show. IF there was a master plan, that would be the most logical way to wrap up the playoffs and give Chargers fans a reason to follow the Bolts to L.A. Many Many Many of them have jumped ship because of the Chargers leaving S.D. A supebowl victory may just bring some of them back.

Good for the Chargers, good for their fans and most important of all... Good for the owners.

Hey Justin, any possibility we can designate a "it's all a conspiracy, maaaan" forum? So people who cant stop talking about nonsense like that, will have somewhere to actually go and post such crap? Its insufferable and "polluting" otherwise decent threads.

Just an idea

You're probably not that far off. The Pats***** have been steamrolling people since 2001 most of the time with a bunch of ******* bum nobodies. Hell they get so called busted for cheating get fined lose draft picks. Next season is the perfect season to prove all wrong. The giants ****** that up.

Anyone with two eyes and a good memory can know what bs is when they see it .

Hell our last game was as clear as could be. Just look at what the refs called and didn't call.

It's good entertainment, but it's no longer a legit sport. I haven't seen much in the last 15 years to convince me otherwise.

I'm sorry if some can't handle that. Cover your purdy little eyes if it bugs you.

^slashy, you gonna be ok??

you didn't get that was intended for you?

Don't let anyone ever tell you, that you are a sharp knife.

I am just fine, how about you?

Keep the conspiracy chatter going as rumor has it Omar is about to explode.................................. or his right hand is just getting tired.......................

The conspiracy crap is just another way to absolve Tomlin of any responsibility. If there were a conspiracy then the Jets would have been in the SB years ago. Hell the clowns would have been after they came back. It is just non-sense. If the Steelers win the SB this year nobody will say a word about conspiracy ****.

he would just switch to his left.

Interesting thought on Socrates though, did you know his musings got him killed? he had to drink poison for poisoning young minds. Tried and convicted.

Your speech won't get you killed in America. Another thing people can be thankful for when it comes to the soldiers who fought for that freedom.

Omar is very thankful and exercises his freedom of speech often.

A new Tomlinism made it's debut: "We ran out of smoke".

Maybe its code for we need Bell and Bryant back? Just a bit of humor.

As I have been saying for years a good head coach puts his team in positon by knowing what the other team is likely to do and comes up with ways to beat, counter or limit it. He makes game day adjustments, wisely manages the clock, knows when to throw the red flag, and understands situational football. His team is prepared to win, focused, and doesn't commit stupid penalties.

^^^ Tomlin is below average at ALL of the above. ^^^

There were reports that some minority owners wanted Tomlin out last year. You'd have to assume none of those people have changed their minds rather their positon has become hardened, and some who were on the fence might be rethinking it. In the end what Art Rooney wants shall rule, but I do think Tomlin's hot seat is getting warmer.

Not winning the division or another one and done in the playoffs should equal You're Fired.

The problem with conspiracies especially at the size and scope of the NFL level is that there are far too many people that would have to keep their mouths shut for it to work out. Usually if there is a true conspiracy involving 10-12 people it gets discovered because someone slips up. They now expect that of the THOUSANDS of people that would have to be in the know to pull off this type of conspiracy and fraud that NOBODY not a single person has ever let it slip out in any way, shape, or form?

You think the NFL is going to kill the golden goose with a conspiracy ?

Or maybe you could just **** off.

Nah, just messing with ya. Sometimes it feels good to say that, since Elfie is gone, I don't get much opportunity.
I do think there is some conspiracy smoke with the Pats though. There is just too much **** that's went down with them involved for me to look the other way.

Exactly right. It's ridiculous to think these guys put this much work and sweat into something that is decided by people around a table. Anybody really think Bettis (who can barely walk) would play all those years knowing that he has no chance of winning unless the NFL wants them too? It just makes no sense.

BTW the refs suck because they are old guys trying to keep up with world class athletes. The NFL needs professional refs that train and work with the teams.

Yeah large scale wouldn't make sense. But individuals, is a different monster.
