Tomlin Mic'ed up for Inside the NFL for the Broncos game

Ben's enthusiasm is infectious.

loved it...........

Like I said during the broadcast...haven't seen Ben that pumped in years. Awesome beast that he is.

This team is firing on all 16 cylinders right now.

"We're not going to abandon the game plan. You've got to communicate better. Get out there and communicate better." Seems like something that a person who is watching the game with a coach's eyes might say. Well actually it sounds like someone who is actively coaching players on the sideline to get them to execute the X's and O's better ...

"Where was the damned safety .. And the Corner was late." Seems like a guy who knows exactly what his player "SHOULD" be doing on the field and where they "SHOULD" have been during the play ... Again, an X's and O's type of statement ...

So, that must have been some dude who only "looks" like Tomlin

Here's what I do like about Tomlin. He doesn't over react. EVER. I wrote a post on the old server in 2008 in the Cowboys game. Down 13-3 on a long drive to close out the 3rd Qtr we go for it on 4th down. We failed. Dallas was jumping around like they won the SB. Our team came to the sideline with their heads down, and Tomlin stopped each one of them and told them to keep their heads up. This was unlike the fire and brimstone/ spit in your face Cowher years when a play didn't work. This was support, this was leadership. He made the call to go for it, but there was still time and he was challenging his players to make plays. Less than 15min later Townsend returns a Romo pick 6 to cap off a 17 pt quarter.

We won the Superbowl that season.

How many "obviouslys" did we get on the sideline?

If you blink I'll cut your eye lids off....man I get to get a T shirt for that one.

That really got me pumped up. Very inspiring that they didn't panic, stuck together and have each other's back.

One day we will look back and wish we could see Ben play another game.

I do that with Mario all the time. I mean guys like Ward and Bettis, HOF dudes you always enjoy them, but Ben is a very special player and we may never see a better QB in Pittsburgh again... certainly not in his mold, at least

We know why he doesn't defer now...

Ben: (to coach) You want the ball..........?

Coach: Damn right I want the ball..... I got you......

Ben: They have the number one defense in the world...

Coach: I got YOU.

Tomlin moves away from typical coach speak and clichés and does his own thing. I admire that. He bestows everything in Ben and his players. He believes in them and they respond.

After watching this version, I change my mind on saying Tomlin never seems involved on sidelines and Ben gets a lot more excited than it usually shows on the tube.

Mike Tomlin's motivational stocking stuffers spread Steelers cheer

PITTSBURGH -- This Christmas season, with the playoffs nearly secured and a magma-hot offense taking hold, the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing their best to deflect any attention beyond preparation for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Mike Tomlin's holiday cheer comes in the form of locker room pep talks about focus and attention to detail.

How have the Steelers kept winning despite injuries at several positions? Partly because coaches remind players incessantly to stay ready.

"Coach Tomlin has brainwashed us," said guard Ramon Foster with a laugh. "That's about as good as I can explain it. Every game we go into, we feel like we can win it."

He means that in the best possible way.

Playing with that theme, here are a few stocking stuffers that Tomlin would give out to his team, if he felt so inclined ...

*Don't Blink slippers: Throughout Sunday's 34-27 win over Denver, Tomlin, who was mic'd up for the NFL's weekly 'Sound FX' segments, repeatedly told his defensive players 'don't blink.'

"If you blink, I'll cut your eyelids off," Tomlin told safety Mike Mitchell from the sideline as the Steelers were down 27-10.

Perhaps Tomlin could give out free eye exams, but players don't have time for that with holidays and the weekly grind.

*Fear-resistant winter jackets: Don't live in your fears. Tomlin says it all the time. So Tomlin can give out fun letterman jackets with DLIYF stitched into the side.

*Handheld fans, to stay cool: Tomlin told Ryan Shazier from the sidelines Sunday to stay 'cool as a fan" and keep communicating with defensive teammates. Later, Shazier dropped into zone coverage and jumped a Brock Osweiler pass for a crucial interception. Shazier probably secures the pick regardless of the Tomlin pep talk, but it makes for a good story when the comment came beforehand.

*Next man up scarves: Steelers players literally hear these three words all day. Why not emblazon the phrase on a delightful black-and-gold scarf.

*Socks with coaching tips on them: Foster has noticed that Tomlin will provide coaching pointers to players regardless of position. Tomlin has told offensive lineman to drag their feet a certain way, or cornerbacks how to close on a play with their feet, not with their hands.

Many of those tips are about footwork, so a good pair of snug footwear is in order.

I didn't see/hear anything I didn't like, but to pretend that this proves Tomlin is a top coach at X's and O's.....nothing showed me that. If you think just because he noted that the safety was late on one play proves he is a great strategist, well, any casual fan could have made that observation.
