By: Logan Leslie SteelerNation.com* Despite such a talented roster, the past few weeks, months and years have been emotionally exhausting for all Steelers fans. The team has been more of a reality television show than the hard-nosed football team we have become so accustomed to seeing throughout the history of the franchise. In 2019 the […]

just end all the drama

Unfortunately, the Steeler FO has seemed without a plan, or understanding of either Bell or Brown, and they let that metastasize in the organization.

A real plan would involve Art and Tombert publicly announcing a return to the past practices, with the clear indication that the next cancer wouldnt be removed before the media became aware: Boz, Burnett, whomever...

Players would speak to the media or thru SM only with prior approval from the team. In return for the diminishment of rights, players would need something like a pool of marketing funds from outside the organization, and would split it amongst themselves.

Tomlin would run a strict, tough TC, with a heavy focus on team unity.

The Steelers would openly commit to a SB pursuit with Ben's final years. Nothing that subtracts from that goal would be acceptable.

That is how a real plan would start.

Lol yeah. They got a plan. I bet.

I will say this. I was in full freak out mode a couple weeks ago. They have made aggressive moves in FA that if they pan out they could contend for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, it is antibiotic on gangrene. The limb needed to be cut off and a new coaching staff brought in to create a whole new culture.

Here’s a thought for you. Could all these 2 year contracts coincide with Tomlin’s contract ending as well? Maybe the reason the Ben extension hasn’t been done yet because the amount of years?

I agree, the culture will be tough to change while Tomlin is here. Ben has been taking **** from the tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb, but Tomlin has largely escaped blame, when he's more to blame than Ben is, and it's not even close. He allowed AB to go all Diva, and he helped that part of him grow.
How do you expect a coach that goes to highschool football games and big times everyone and stirs **** up with security to get a football team behind him, he wants to be one of the guys to much.

The problem I have is with the decision making of Art, Colbert and Tomlin lately in how blatantly clear we've kept malcontent players one year too long instead of getting rid of them one year early and at significantly greater worth.

Look, I understand Colbert drafts the talent and each prospect has a sliding scale of talent, work ethic, diva mentality, et. al. and no prospect is perfect and as players develop, the scale is constantly changing under coaching and opportunity. And I understand Tomlin can't babysit everyone and his influence on these things can only do so much (I might be critical of him, but at the same time you can't eliminate ALL developmental issues in players).

But the feedback from the coaching staff back up through the ranks to the top decision makers about WHEN to get rid of these players has been terrible. Just terrible. And that is obviously happening at the Tomlin to Colbert and Colbert back to Tomlin level. We should have dumped Brown a year ago. And probably Bell two years ago. Yes, those would have been difficult decisions. Yes, a certain part of the fan base would have been confused. But for this organization NOT to see the writing on the wall with these guys is a failure of utter proportion and inexcusable.

I think its broken. The Tombert combination is broken and can't be fixed. Each year something else will rear its head. Something that competent management would be on top of and take care of one year too early rather than one year too late. Who knows what its going to be this year, but it will be something. The fact Brown and Bell, arguably, got what they wanted and made the Steelers organization look bad will only increase the likelihood this will continue to happen. And it won't stop happening until you get rid of the problems on the Steelers terms (which means earlier).

The Steelers have a plan?

Letting Brown walking all over them, watching him destroy his trade value, then trading him for peanuts while at the same time being stuck with 20 million in cap space in 2019? His replacement is Moncrief. There will be a drop-off.

Replace Gilbert with Feiler? Feiler played well, but will be as good as Gilbert was in his prime? Not likley.

Losing Bell and getting perhaps nothing more than a 4th round compensatory pick for him.

Losing Shazier, and giving Williams too much money, then losing our best ILB in Fort in free agency, then pretending like Barron is the answer?

Cutting Burnett and losing 2.8 million in cap space?

What's next, a 4-5 year big money deal for Dupree?

Colbert better nail this draft.

Feiler will be competing with two other T's.

Porter and Tomlin, but he and Tomlin would not move away from the fence where no one was allowed to stand, the police came and they didn't cooperate, luckily the game ended before the cops had to remove them. Tomlin also went into the North Catholic locker room (where his son plays I believe) and berated the officials.

Another shameful example.

Art2 is on record. The kicking game was the issue for the 2018 failure.

Make some kicks. Everything is fine.

We have a plan.

Until Tombert proves to me they can draft defense, they can't draft defense. Obviously.

I think Tomlin has preferred inferior coaches because good coaches would make him look bad. Wouldn't want that would we? Plan my ***. If the Steelers do pull it together it could well be more "winning despite the coaching " . Its a sad state of affairs.

I'm just curious to see how long it takes the offensive line play to return to the pre-Munchak form that we saw for years under Tomlin.

The days of plugging in player after player along the line and having the unit continue to perform at a high level are over. I'm confident in that.

I'm no fan of Tomlin but I honestly think the problems go deeper than him. I do not think Art has the football, business and common sense that his dad had. Hope I'm wrong but I think we're in for a generation long stretch of mediocrity.
