He was just asked if they waited to long to change the game plan, he said as long as Baltimore wasn't going up down the field scoring we were ok with sticking to our guns and trying to get the game plan to work.

We always play down to the competition because right there he says since they weren't scoring, it's ok that our game plan isn't working, we'll just stick with it and try to make it work.

Did he really say that? I'll take you at your word, but I'd like to see the context of the discussion.

and unfortunately this is a common theme with us on the road vs ****** teams, ultra conservative. Why the hell does the fact that the opposing offense is struggling dictate our offensive game plan? why can't we try to go up and down the field and score.

I'm listening to the presser, someone asked him about the game plan, I'm sure the transcript will come out and we'll see exact quote.

He is scared

He is taking the heat because that’s his job, he’s the boss,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s the head coach, he is supposed to take the heat. When you are the head man, that’s what you are going to do. You are going to get blamed and it is going to come down on you whether it is your fault or not. That is just how it works. That is the way the league works, and that is the way sports work.”

Roethlisberger said that he doesn’t believe that Tomlin’s coaching style has fallen on deaf ears. Tomlin is midway through his 10th year as the Steelers’ head coach.

“No, not at all,” Roethlisberger said. “He his our head coach, and we respect what he says. There’s no mutiny forming.”

• Roethlisberger said that he didn’t receive final word on whether or not he will play against the Ravens until two hours before kickoff.

“He came and told me ‘let’s go with it’ and let’s go make this thing happen,” Roethlisberger said. “I know it was going to be (Tomlin’s) decision, ultimately, if he got the clearance from Dr. James Bradley and I got. He told me to wait until Sunday. So, Sunday morning he sent me a text when I woke up and asked how I was feeling and let’s make a decision when I get to the stadium and I do some stuff on it.”

• Roethlisberger conceded that he wasn’t “super sharp” against the Ravens, but the plan all along was to run the ball with Le’Veon Bell.

“The game plan whether I was playing or Landry was playing was to run the ball,” Roethlisberger said. “We ran on first down, second down, third down. We did a lot of running the ball, and that was the game plan going in. I just never got myself into a good rhythm until late.”

What's really funny is all the people who are acting like this is anything new.

Guess the shades are finally coming off regarding Shades.

Unfortunately while everyone else was taking the stance that past glory equals future performance.....me and a couple others have been derided and dismissed for pointing out his obvious and long standing flaws.

Because EVERYTHING the players say to the media in 100% factual and accurate. SMH

Of course Ben is not going to slam his HC in public. What would you expect him to say? Ben knows his window is closing and wants to get back to the SB and you have to wonder about his concerns with this current regime. Maybe Tomlin will start unleashing hell again. Oh wait, he's already tried that once.

Their game plan for the Rats sucked. If he stated that then it truly is on his shoulders. They had a very conservative game plan to run the ball up the middle and not let Ben throw the ball. That is beyond stupid. If Ben is not healthy enough to throw it, then he should not be in there. If he is, then you let him sling it around like you usually do. Our game planning and play calling are beyond suspect. Sure we look great at times. Those are the times we are playing to our strengths. Why the **** you wouldn't play to your strengths all the time is beyond me. You don't play not to lose, you play to win 100% of the time. We always seem to revert to playing not to lose and that is 100% a coaching issue.

Ben has always shouldered the blame and deflected credit away from him, see super bowl 43, Ben was under pressure the entire season, and the first unit he credited was the oline, eventhough they were crap

And I have no problem with that. So tell me why when bell popped off about practice that is taken as 100% factual and accurate???

And trying to get your Running game going with the best back in football is wrong too. Run one or two times and then say **** it that didn't work.

Commenting on how practice goes is just a little bit different than throwing another player or coach under the bus. Not that hard to figure out. But you live in the everyone gets a trophy "fair" world, not in reality.

Nothing wrong with trying to get your running game going, it's the fact he didn't want to adjust at all

Get the running game going but we still are not a team that should ever be going run, run, pass. That just does not work for us and not against a D like the Rats.

right. 2 and 9, Ben under center, 2TE, FB, then handing off to Bell (for 1 yard ) is not fooling anyone.

So the game plan was to let Bell get stuffed on every run for three quarters?
In fairness, when Ben did pass he misfired on a lot of them.

why, pray tell, would Bell make that up?? What does he have to gain, if in fact, the practices are actually efficient, physical, cohesive and productive, by saying that they're "sloppy"? You think he's gonna want to walk in that locker room after feeding that tidbit to the press and face his teammates and coaching staff? You think that's gonna go over well with "the fellas"?

Think Einstein, think!

Makes me think back to Troy's last year, early in the season, when he made a cryptic comment about the "practice habits" or something to that effect, and how he didn't quite feel they were up to snuff.

Coincidentally Ben just happens to play ****** vs ****** competition....or does Tomlin use game controllers to manipulate his play ? Misreading plays, missing open wrs, chuckin it 30 when we needed 5......bobbling snaps ....

He absolutely said that. Dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. It wasn't the defensive gameplan that needed to be abandoned, it was the offensive one. What an idiot he is.

See this is that situational awareness I am talking about. Air it out against the Dolphins who can't stop the run to save their lives, but pound Bell stubbornly into the ground against a top 4 run D, and completely fail to adjust when it's clear it's not working. Pathetic

And no, Bell being the best RB in the league doesn't have anything to do with this because our passing game is supposedly one of the best in the league too, or at least is when it's on. We should be forcing defenses to pick their poisons, instead we are playing right into their strengths. **** Mike Tomlin

At the beginning of the game the announcers said that Harbaugh realized you have to make Bell make the first move as he is a counter puncher and waits for the defense to make a move and then he responds, The Ravens executed this game plan to perfection and as usual Tomlin was unaware of what was happening and refused to adjust, He is an awful game day coach.

I was thinking this very same thing earlier today. It explains a lot. In fact, it appears to be "the Steeler Way." It was that way u dear Cowher. It is that way under Tomlin. It's that way with the Rooney's. Think about it. What was one of the biggest complaints about Cowher, that he was prone to "turtle" - especially in games where we got the lead. How many coaches have we had, compared to other teams? The Rooney's philosophy has always been "slow and steady." Why should it surprise us when we do anything different under Tomlin?

I'm actually ok with our strategy for Sunday's games, if Ben couldn't do anything more physically. We wouldn't have gotten anything better from Landry. But this philosophy goes beyond this game. Our goal always seems to be "play well enough to win." Tomlin always talks about "ugly wins" and "no style points."

I think our approach is too conservative. We play "not too lose," rather than playing to win. That would explain why we do well against more competitive teams. We have to take our foot off the brake, which results in better performances.

Contrast this approach with the Patriots, who always "go for the jugular." As much as I hate the Patriots, I admire their approach to the game.

When you have a franchise QB, you can't think that way, let him run the offense the way he wants.
Ben was asked yesterday if he would prefer some more no huddle up tempo offense, his response was, I'm preparing for Dallas, so basically yes he would like more, but it's not his call.
