Tough loss today, no doubt. Injuries are piling up, and I think it is safe to say this season is lost. That said.........’

As bad as this season has gone, this team is a couple plays away from being 4-1 or at worst, 3-2. The Steelers were right there with chances to beat SF, Seattle and Baltimore. Mistakes have killed this season, in my mind more so than any injuries. Even Big Ben’s.

But even with the mistakes and injuries the Steelers had a chance to win each of the three games I mentioned. Today, they were down to an undrafted rookie at QB and probably should have won if not for a mistake (fumble).

This defense is coming together. They are forcing turnovers and making plays. If the offense could sustain a few drives, it would really help the defense. The continuous long drives today by Baltimore were a killer, but a little help from the offense and maybe it makes a difference. Even still, the defense gave the offense a chance to win.

Warts are being exposed, I.e the coaching. A solid philosophy on both sides with a real game plan and adjustments and this team is pretty good. Possibly really good. Even with coaching as a liability, the team isn’t totally underperforming.

With a healthy team with this season under its belts, I like where this team will be next year. A player or two added and subtracted, this team is right back in the hunt for HFA in the AFC playoffs. Plenty to be positive about, bad as this season has been.

Good post. I think this team has a lot of talent, though not a lot of consistency. If you look at a few of the biggest weaknesses this year, you're looking at QB, OL, and coaching.

I'm happy to see the Defense improving...that is a definite positive.

The negatives are the lack of a running game & the lack of any return game on Special Teams. We've only got the coaching staff to blame with regards to the lackluster Special Teams play. Hopefully they make some moves like bring up Tevin Jones from the PS. We need someone like Eli Rogers or Demarcus Ayers brought back into the mix also. Holton, Moncrief & Switzer absolutely don't belong on this roster. I can't believe we let Dionte Spencer walk from this roster!

Point is, even without Ben, they have had opportunities. All is not lost. This team is right there.
If we are playing could've, SF should've blew us out, they handed us 3 of those turnovers deep in our own territory without us doing anything to cause them.

Would everyone still ***** about the D being on the field all day, if the O scored every series in 3 plays or less?

I still to this day remember our High School Coach telling us, “If you are that ****** tired, stop their Offense, and you can have a seat on the bench. Until you do that, I don’t care what the rest of the team does.” His point was WE, as a defense controlled how much time we spent on the field. That same lesson applies to the Steelers D, but people continue to make excuses for them.

Yep plenty of negatives and positives.Bottom line is this team is a losing team now. If someone doesn't get it turned around soon they should be shown the door.

They are in business to win games. I have seen plenty of bad teams play well and always lose at the end by a close margin.

Right now that is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I love them you love them, there is some things to like.

But that doesn't change the bottom line.

I’m not talking about moral victories. If you read this board, you’d swear the Steelers have the worst everything in the NFL. Considering the Steelers are down to an undrafted rookie QB and are giving themselves opportunities to win, it ain’t that bad. I can’t imagine anyone expected much after Ben got hurt, so I can’t see the point in whining about losing. But hey, head on back to your whining and crying. Sorry I interrupted.

Sarge they are giving themselves opportunities to win true. But they are also are giving themselves enough opportunities to lose. and it isn't just the one game that they went down to their third string QB. This has dated back to last year with their collapse.

We can like parts of their game, as I do. But as I said in another thread excuses only take you so far. Other teams with green QBs are finding ways to win. Steelers need to start doing that, or a change needs to be made.

No, the offense gave the defense a chance to win. We score late and all the D had to was hold a struggling offense to three plays even after the ridiculous penalty. But no, they let Jackson drive enough to get into chip shot range for Tucker. The defense has made strides, but once again, when it counted the most, they failed....

That's exactly all I'm saying👍. I'm still cheering for them every weekend, but we are 1-4, that's the fact.

It sucks to be looking ahead to next year 5 games into the season but that’s the reality. I’m going to the Colts game in a few weeks back I thought it would be a sure win and now it’s looking like the opposite. Go Steelers.

Good thing we traded our top 5 draft pick away already, oh wait....................

it's like some of you dont even watch the game.

yes, the defense had to hold the Rats. but when you get flagged for tackle that was as textbook as it can be...

as Sarge said, we were down to an undrafted rookie QB and were still winning until very, very late in the game. Yes, we traded away our 1st round pick next year, and our defense has improved. to say otherwise is to be willfully ignorant and partial towards a coach or coaches being fired. the fact remains that our defense has gotten better. you can see it in their play. Their last 4 games, the Rats scored an average of 25.5 points. We had them down to 20 until late. Defense had 3 interceptions and 5 sacks.

all that, despite being on the field for 39 minutes.

defense was not the problem. Is not the problem anymore. defense is not going to get a strip sack fumble interception safety every play of every game. which is what it sounds like you ***** are expecting.

since we had a rookie undrafted QB leading the offense, we were still in the hunt to win the game. we were not being blown out. we're not Miami.

and, looking forward, we're also not Cincinnati.

Hodges can develop into the type of QB we expect of a guy who holds so many passing awards. IMO, the OC needs to take a play from when Ben came in as a rookie and let Hodges manage the game until he gets a good feel for the NFL. That won't happen this week.

Oddly enough, we'll need to lean on the defense.

Reasons for losses this year:
Defense sucks
O-Line sucks
WRs suck
Coaches and game plan / play calling sucks

Reasons to keep watching, even though there's very little hope for playoffs:
I've watched all the games, and I haven't seen a loss that can be blamed on a QB sucking.
The defense has gotten better. They've quickly blown every lead not against Cincinnati, but overall getting much better.
The WRs have started to sometimes get open downfield.
We have the Dolphins, Jets, and Bengals on the schedule.

I think if they let Hodges sling the ball around and don't handcuff him like they've done Rudolph, there's a chance the Steelers could win 6 or 7 games.
Otherwise, all we can hope for is 4 wins at best and maybe see the dumbass coach finally get fired.

No damn way MT gets fired after ONE losing season and a season where their franchise HOF QB is lost for the season in week 2. Unfortunately, dude IS getting a mulligan even though w/each loss it's clear this staff has zero ability to formulate a successful game plan around the moving parts.

Sorry but stats don't work like that. Until late isn't a thing. Fact is they scored 23 points in regulation and 26 counting OT. They did the same type of things last year. We had leads going into the 4th until late and got beat. That is not an improvement. It's a continuing trend. The defense is 16th in PPG and 17th in YPG. Last year they were 16th in PPG and 6th in YPG. They are much better in TOs this year but like Coryea said, several of those had nothing to do with the defense. Just bad offensive plays.

This defense looks like the one from last year to me. They just give up more yards. Work hard for 3+ quarters then the flood gates open.

The offense put the defense in a bad spot in the first quarter. Falling down 10-0 right off the bat did not help. From that point, I thought the Steelers did alright, out scoring Baltimore 23-16. Unfortunately, you can’t discount those first 10 minutes of the game. Truth is, this team should never have been in that position. The play calling on the first couple offensive drives was pathetic, even just plain stupid. Put us behind the 8-ball right out of the gate. They did well to overcome it, even if they didn’t ultimately finish. I guess I am looking on the bright side in that it could be worse. In spite of all the adversity and losing, there are positive signs.

Remember a year or two ago when they couldn’t buy a turnover? The defense is creating them now. Yes, they have been handed a few, but a year or two ago they couldn’t even come up with the ones that were handed to them.

I disagree. Even though we cannot speculate - this team has vastly improved AND IF Ben wasn't hurt the defense wouldn't run out of gas.

I'd bet we'd be 4-1...

Of course we would. But it wouldn't be because of the defense. This defense has not vastly improved. It gets more TOs but they give up as many points and they give up more yards.

I heard they fixed the injury car, that's a positive
