Maybe a rule guru can answer this.

Why did Wilcox get the U. R. penalty when he was trying to defend the goal line? It was a bang bang play( I watched it about 5 times) and the receiver had already caught the ball and was starting to move forward. Why is the benefit of the doubt not given to the defender trying to protect the goal line?

This was a helmet to helmet hit and will get flagged now. Not when Bell is trying to score against the Ravens on Thanksgiving...

That's why I'm asking why the benefit of the doubt isn't given to the defender. The NFL is determined to remove any possibility of future player lawsuits(brain injury) seems like, but if as a defender you can't even try to defend the goal line that's just another step in ruining the game. I mean if it's blatant U.R. I could understand, but Wilcox was just trying to stand him up and keep him out even though he didn't realize the ball had broken the plane.

I don't like it, let em play.

I agree they should let them play, but the kindler, gentler NFL is all about head hits. That's why it took them an entire minute to throw the flag on Gay's hit. They are now throwing flags if players get injured, not on the plays. And that is bullshit.

I'm about done. The NFL needs to come out and say this a contact dangerous sport, just like boxing, mma or hockey. There are risks if you chose to play. You know the risks and you are paid per the risk, if you don't want to take the risk don't play. Trying to take violence out of a game by watching replays in super slow motion and fining players for split second hits is bs. The game is what it is

It's all bullshit, he was trying to stop a guy from scoring. Can't even play the game any more.

I especially also enjoyed the unnecessary roughness flag after the refs stood there and listened to the crowd boo for 30 seconds and they watched 2 replays before deciding to throw a flag. What a freaking sham.

I think Will Gays hit was even more bull **** bush league of a call. Head up wrapped up but receiver ducked his head down into #22. The NFL even has a ******* tented safe place for players to wash their vaginas in. No wonder ratings are plummeting.

I agree. It gives a HUGE advantage to the WR at the towline if the defender can't play him with any physicality.

I didn't like the late hit call on Watt either. It looked like he was trying to go after what he thought was a loose ball.

It's now the no contact league

I honestly believe an XFL or USFL with actual non-pussified football would go over very well. None of this kneeling at the anthem or penalties every time someone touches another player. Get rid of the flags, politics, and wusses.

I didn't even make the attempt to watch. As of now, I don't reserve the day for This watered down powder puff bullshit. If I don't have anything else to do, I will watch if on national tv

Ya. They'll watch reviews for 2 minutes to decide whether or not to throw a flag. (And put on a few commercials which pays the NFL somewhere in the zone of 3/4 to 1 million...) but they won't change their helmet contracts to sign with a company that makes safer, better designed helmets proven to protect better against concussions.

uh huh...

This just come out and say it and then THE MOST IMPORTANT PART COMPENSATE WITH GUARANTEED CONTRACTS. Let players play they know the risks

Maybe they should make the helmet a huge air bubble like the sumo suits....at least I would get a laugh out of it.....It makes you think of the old leather helmets or lack of helmets days....

You cannot defend a pass anymore. You have to allow the receiver to catch the ball, establish possession, take a step or two and then you can pull their flag off....Not until

chest or lower. That's the intended target the NFL uses. Any hit even near the head will get flagged. The Steelers NEED to do a better job at hitting and tackling. That means you, CMT!

A lot of players lead with the shoulder and go for the big hit. If you lead with the shoulder and the receiver ducks or leans forward you will hit them in the head. Players should be targeting the waist. Tackling fundamentals are terrible league wide.
I guarantee anyone saying how pussified the league is would not want to take full shots to the head. I realize players are well compensated, but they area still humans with families.
On a side note i thought the NFL approved the Vise helmet i think it was.

The defense needs to have a rule in place that benefits them. The two hits one sidelines and at goal line are bang bang plays advantage offense. They seldom throw an offense interference call so advantage offense, the QB can throw the ball away, just to much benefits the offense and nothing for a good play on defense.

That's great anywhere else on the field but any hit on the waist at the goal line of a reciever, the reciever is going to win that one every time. That ruins the chance of seeing a goal line stand or at least a few great defensive plays. They're ruining situational football as Tomlin would say, and along with it their own product.

It's the Madden generation's fault as well.

The new helmet is great, but barely anyone is wearing it. If the league really cared, it would be mandatory for each and every player to wear these helmets (and gel mouth pieces for that matter). Instead, just a few players on each team has them. I know Ben does. Wilcox didn't. AB doesn't Most defenders don't and they're the ones that should have it.

The NFL doesn't give a **** about what is fair to the defense or the competitive integrity of the game, they care a great deal about not getting sued.

To even the playing field out..

They should start calling Offensive Pass Interference as intended..

Not only cant you hit the receiver...but they can blatantly push off or impede your spot on the field, and/or rightful path for the ball..
