If Colbert wants to be a part of the rebuild without Tomlin its quite simple. Id fire Tomlin today after I had a brief conversation with Saleh about our commitment to hiring him. However, if Colbert is not down with that it gets way more difficult. You need to let Colbert's contract expire and then get your GM. Kahn is a good bean counter but he isn't a football guy. Then As much as it sickens me you need to live with Tomlin for another year. And just be straight. Rebuild not retool. Lets see what you can do for one year. I just think if you go GM, you are gonna be left with the sloppiest of seconds at HC. But make no mistake people rebuilds aren't about false records. You sink and swim with the young guys. That means Ben is done. Rudolph either looks like an NFL starter or you will be 4 wins next year and in position for a high draft QB.

I really do like Saleh's fire and he could be a very good HC. I wish the Steelers would look at him, but. . .

Everything you say is great, but no re-build will happen until Ben retires, MT resigns and/or Colbert retires/moves on. Major changes are usually few and far between with this organization and they tend to keep it in-house. They may get a new coordinator here or there(OL, DB, QB), but if Ben comes back and there's a strong indication he will, they will not upset the apple cart until the first shoe drops. They still think they can win the SB.

In my model two of the three are gone and Ben is one of the two. You cannot make up for mistakes by adding more mistakes. They structured his contract stupidly and now they have to eat it. He isn't a part of a rebuild so he needs to be released. He can be a Washington WTF if he still wants to play. The point is that if Colbert doesn't want to make a three year commitment to the rebuild he needs to go first. GM searches are exhaustive and you miss the cream of the crop of HC's. Its just the reality. But there will always be a good one next year and this job is appealing to say the least.
