Will Shakespeare once wrote, “All that glitters, is not gold.” I, for one, am not a Mike Tomlin hater. In my books he is easily a top five coach in the NFL today, and in my humble opinion from my couch, he is number two behind the cheater from New England. But it goes without […]

Spot-on. I could have written that. Shades is for sure top five and maybe the second best HC in the game after Hoodie but every year he does boneheaded **** that loses a couple games. What's Hoodie's record against sub-.500 teams? Probably 842-0.

If we're taking the "automatic" wins against the Browns away from Tomlin, why didn't we take the "automatic" Browns or Bengals wins away from Cowher? Just wondering because the Browns when they came back were definitely an automatic win and the Bengals during much of Cowher's years were too (iirc, I'm getting old .. lol).

Other than to ask that question. I agree, as long as he's the HC of the Steelers, Tomlin HAS to do better against sub .500 teams. Those "slip ups" have cost his teams playoff seeding, etc.

I will say this, if we don’t at least get to a super bowl before Ben retires in the next 2-3 years, then it will never happen under him.
No team other than perhaps the post Jimmy Johnson Cowboys with Barry Switzer was as stacked with top tier players than the 2007 Steelers When Tomlin took over.
He had two excellent coordinators that went al long way with getting this team to two Super Bowls.
I’ve always felt Tomlin received far to much credit for those two Super Bowls in 2008 and 2010.

Once again the team is loaded but you just know you’ll see the same crap again this year from him. We shall see.

Only criticism is it's the LA Chargers. People around these parts want you to know. lol.

49'ers when Seifert took over
Tampa Bay when Gruden took over (although most of their deck was stacked on defense)
I'm sure there are more, like the Colts when Caldwell took over, etc.
anyway, it's been a long day and I'm too tired to think of any more

High points for dealing with Bryant low points for dealing with Harrison. Learned nothing from AB NE fiasco in 16-17 and a repeat of that same bullshit with Mike Mitchell against the Jags. His teams are undisciplined and they get out maneuvered schematically. Cannot fix an in season problem. Solves it with infusing talent the following year.

Hopefully with two good tacklers and vets added to the D it will help. AB is more mature now. So I think less headaches. If we can get Bell to start a little stronger this year, possibly good things.

The single biggest thing outside of getting the team prepared to play opponents whom they should squash like a bug. Tackling! Absolutely horrible. Pop Warner kids do it better. That should be drilled into them in camp, practice and OTA's The rules in place now make this an essential brought back. If they want to know great form with controlled violence. Jack Lambert is your study guide for how to.

Nope.

Mikey Sunglasses is a hack.

This far into his career as a head coach he still has not grasped clock management, situational football, or contingency planning. He repeatedly does dumbass things like look past the team that beat us handilly in the regular season and fails to prep us correctly for them in the playoffs. Of course then he excuses it with a pithy saying from his bank of coaching clichés. Ben is done inside of two years, when he retires this is a 5 to 7 win team Max and that's with an easy schedule.

Not here. 99% of the board was saying, "Cowher's players, Cowher's players".
Which did prove to be largely true. As Cowher's players retired most were replaced with ones who were not so good. Some of that can be excused by drafting later since they had good records but we've had the same GM for a long time and suddenly with a new HC they have a lot more misses than hits when drafting defense.

I think this article gives "cool shades" more credit than he deserve. 20-18 vs sub .500 teams, 59-1 vs sub .500 teams says a LOT. I realize cool shades is no Noll but the win/loss vs sub.500 is as true a tail as you can get. Momentum changing, attitude / confidence are all affected and yes, HE has missed out on playoff & playoff seating due to this ****. I'm not talking just one season as this win/loss sub.500 is a regularly occurring thing. I hope he surprises us this year.

Salute the nation

When do any of you remember a Steelers defense as soft as the ones we’ve had in recent years?
That’s the one constant with the Steelers, their staple, a ferocious, hard hitting, aggressive, in your face defense.
We could have down years and believe me before the Emperor arrived in 69 there were plenty of those, but the one thing we always had, an intimidating defense.
When Tomlin arrived and as the veterans started retiring, that went out the window.
The great communicator, great teacher, great motivator still does not have a clue about defense but he thinks he does and that is what’s alarming.

The reason the Tampa Bay game is a trap is NOT Winston, the stadium, or the weather...

The problem is the strip clubs and the Steelers' penchant for partying on the road in Florida. ...and Tampa is pretty close to Pouncey's home town of Lakeland...so he'll be out with this crew.

Maybe the fact that it is MNF will change that...but I highly doubt it.

Agree, defense has gotten steadily worse and less intimidating since Shades has been here. Some of that can be explained by rules changes but it's plain for all to see that they can't draft or develop a S or CB since he's been here and only got lucky with two LB's, Watt and Shazier, and everyone else has been a bust or JAG. Willie Gay was just given his walking papers and he's near the end of the road anyway, but he was the best DB we had.

Yeah player development is another knock on Mikey Sunglasses. He was a 1 year DC with Minneapolis but before that he was a D-Backs coach. I would think our Defense in general and defensive secondary would build better guys based on that background.

He satisfies the Rooney rule though and doesn't make the team owners look like hypocrites so there's that I guess.

That's fake news

As has been noted a zillion times, the Rooney Rule was satisfied bigly before they even interviewed Tomlin. They interviewed Ron Rivera. He's of Hispanic descent, but not one of the bad hombres. It was yuge news at the time; the best HC interview ever. Anyway, interviewing Rivera satisfied the Rooney Rule. Any other interpretation is just alternative facts.

Not really. If they hadn't hired a minority they would have been labeled hypocrites. We know how that goes. Frankly I think Shades is a better HC than Rivera.

I don’t give a damn about if the Steeler’s coach is white or a minority as long as that said coach can get the most out of his team, always have them prepared for every game and every opponent no matter their record, and most importantly to me, learn from his mistakes.
That’s my biggest issue with Tomlin. He never learns from his mistakes and continues the same pattern.
Him being black does not even figure into my definition of him being a good coach or not.
Stop doing the same stupid things that you do, admit when you screw up and don’t always put in on the players.

I agree with the first part, disagree with the second. Rivera is getting the panthers to the playoffs with Cam Newton. Newton is a great athlete but he is a run gimmick QB. Personally I would drive a dump truck full of money up to Tony Dungys house to lure him out of retirement or give Luvie Smith another shot. I don't hold Smiths tenure in Tampa against him because since Malcolm Glazer died the Buccaneers have been the Cleveland Browns of the NFC.

OH, I fully believe the Rooneys intended on hiring a minority. I also believe it's because hiring a minority is what they WANTED to do. Not because they bowed to some unseen outside pressure to follow their own mandate. Heck, the Rooneys have shown so much love to the minority communities and equal rights that if I were the head of the African-American delegation, I'd propose a trade. We get the Rooneys and the Caucasian delegation receives Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson and that sheriff from Minnesota.

Dude is #15 ALL-TIME regular season winning Pct. @ .659

Only one coach active ahead of him is Bellichick....Give it a rest

Yep Mikey sunglasses is Mr. regular season. Regular season victories don't mean **** as far as gaining championships.

LOLZ!

There are much better coaches who are black than Mikey sunglasses.
