Listening to Colbert and Tomlin Post draft, you get the feel that the term Nose Tackle in the Casey Hampton/ Joel Steed sense is over. Yeah Dan might get another paycheck this year (seriously has anyone ever drawn an NFL paycheck longer and done less than this guy). but that is just for a few different fronts they use. I think a more accurate term for their Dline is this guy is a __ technique. Those guys like Alulau and Buggs are more 0-3 technique guys and Tuitt and Heyward are more 3-4 guys. So they deploy these guys into a front and give them their technique (gap) assignment adjusting to the front/ formation. Modern offense is pretty good at scheming a team out of a true Nose. Now my numbering might be a little off on that as I more coach DB's and linebackers and because I coach JV we still use the term gap more. But I think you get the jist.
