This is an open topic on the offense Defense or our coaches ..

I don't understand how we have a 170 yd rushing game from deangelo and a 284 yd receiving game from Antonio.. and we still are kicking a nailbiter for the win at the end of the game.

I don't get it. I mean yeah we scored 38,, but ,,

I guess maybe the problem was the Defense. Maybe its play calling... Consistency.. I don't know.. but I don't see it being discussed and that's what is on my mind.

Ask Goodell.

The defense just did not have a good game. It was probably the weakest the pass rush had been all season.

Am I the only one who pays attention when the opponent runs the ball? Our run defense has been hashed all year. That's not good.

The Raiders do have a solid pass blocking OL....or so my brother says(life long Raiders fan). It was nice winning a close one that I was at. It has been a long time coming it seems. We both had our highs and lows during the game of course. In the end I had the better long drive back home. :)

Well, while we're at it we can't just say "the defense" was bad. There were a couple of turnovers where the offense failed to capitalize. There were also a couple of defensive stops that resulted in the offense getting good to great field position where the offense again failed to capitalize.

Coming into this season the thought was that the defense would be far and away the weak link. They've got work to do in order to remind anyone of some of the great Steeler defenses of the past. Yet, they are not as terrible as we thought they would be and they are growing as a unit.

I keep saying until we can nail down the NT position on this football team we will continue to struggle. MeClendon is not a NT and is more suited to playing off the end. Big Dan has got to be more intensive and more consistent and is still pretty much a project. We've got to acquire a true NT in the off season, that's my 2 cents worth.

They weren't even close to getting to Carr more than a couple of times. This was the difference between a 14-point win and a game-winning kick as time expired.

And the TO's they generated were the difference of us winning the game and us losing the game.

The defense is not good. They give up 374 yards a game average. We have been fortunate that we have sometimes kept the ball out of the end zone. Some people buy that bend don't break crap. Not me.

About the defense.......Yes, they give yards and points on occasion. But they fly to the ball, they hit, they force turnovers. In short, they do just about everything you can expect from a defense in the NFL where every advantage is given to the passing game. Sure, they give up some big plays, fail to cover the opponents' star WR or TE from time to time. But if you had told me this would be our defense before the year started, I would have been happy to take it. I expected much worse. After NE, I wondered if the Steelers would win 6 games this year. I think they will be ok. I think next year, they will be pretty good.

I have to blame our offense. Too many times this year, they fail to take advantage of the opportunities the defense provides. The Cincy game is the best example. Good lord, the defense kept handing the offense the ball, and the offense kept ******* it up. Keep giving a good team like Cincy mulligans, you will eventually get burned. And they did.

I think one of the biggest problems is going for the home run on 3rd and 3. FFS, just get the first down. Keep the drive alive. Keep your D off the field. Too many times this season the O has put the D on the ropes. If the O takes what the D gives, gets first downs and moves the chains, I think we beat Cincy last week.

Agreed x1000

This is a good post. The defense did a fantastic job and not only did the offense give up this game, but our best player gave it away with two awful throws for interceptions. I get it that Cincinnati was out there making plays, but those were flat out giveaways. The third down bomb is another great example you brought up. Pick up the first down and keep the drive alive. There are plenty of opportunities to take a deep chance, but you have to be wise with it.

It's simple.. both sides of the ball watch the other, and whichever one shows they are ready to dominate that day, the other decides to tank. Just to make it interesting..

It sure seems that way sometimes.

just think wathing justin elli in the middle if we had taken him rather than archer a dl of heyward ellis tuitt, they really need to start using big dan.
mix up the coverage it is so obvious butler's fav blitz is the snake blitz had he not called that mitchell would of been on crabtree rather then timmons, it was a very hard task for a high 250- low 260 MLB to cover crabtree unless they had dropped shazier and went with a cover 2
