Can't find it. Everybody says that Denver dropped 9. I know the Steelers must have dropped 5 or 6. Anybody know?

Denver dropped more, that was the eyeball test.

Bryant dropped his first, then stepped up.

They dropped two that mattered. Bryants first he would have been off to the races, Wheaton dropped what should have been a TD.

The Miller drop really hurt. His catch would have been a big first down that put the Steelers in field goal range, and ready to push for a TD. He had both hands on the ball and just freaking dropped it.

A lot of folks in the media (I know) are calling for the Steelers to draft a pass catching TE this upcoming draft. When I think about the reasons most usually stated, I can't say that I disagree.

1) Heath isn't getting younger
2) With the emergence of The Outlaw, Spaeth is expendable (and he's no spring chicken himself)
3) Need a rangy, long type TE that has a little more speed than James that can be a threat to break off a long run after catch and exploit mismatches against LBs.

With the amount of dropped passes and the questionable kicking game, was it more than likely the wind had the greatest impact on the game?

I think TE is a need but not a huge need. I don't think I would bring Miller back for his 4.66 million base pay but if he cuts that down by two million I would be ok with it. I think Jesse James has shown he at the very least as potential and with that I don't draft a TE until I have a CB, SS, and DT drafted. Then at that point I have TE ranked with OL and ILB as second tier needs.

Drops were big and special teams fuckups were big. Don't expect to see either in a playoff game. We could have survived the fumble with a little better execution in other areas.

Denver did have quite a few drops, but it seemed like ours were in big situations.
Wheaton should've been a TD.
Bryant's slant, not sure if that was 3rd down, but he had a ton of room
Miller dropped a big pass on 3rd down that would've been a 1st down. Miller had another one, but was interfered with.
Gay, if he uses his hands probably picks off Manning, but he let hit come into his body and Sanders knocked it away.

Yep, the special teams were a huge factor. The coverage unit gave up that first big punt return that led to Denver's first FG. Save for one or two punts, Berry was terrible. And Wheaton brain farted on just about every return attempt. The only one who had a good game on the unit was the Boz with both his kickoffs and FGs.

I'm all for taking an athletic, receiving TE.. I'm just not sure I want to spend a 1st round pick on one. Henry is obviously the big TE in this years draft but I'd look for one in the 3rd round range.

A big athletic TE is great, but is he worth a first rounder and with Brown, Bryant, Coates, Bell, how many times are we going to throw him the ball.

We need to move on from Heath. He's just coming up short and we need a play maker there. It will make the O that much better.

Yes we do. We need to get in the endzone!

Then what the hell is Bell for Cope? He's supposed to be an amazing receiver as well... Can't HE be the redzone pass catching play-action threat?

Why do we need to waste MORE picks on the offense while the defense continues to wither?

How are you wasting picks on a facet of our team that is near the top in the league? I want it to be the top. Pats have 3 WRs 2 TEs and a pass catching RB (when healthy). You think they're upset at having too much talent on offense? They have little trouble punching it in for TDs. Plus their D is improving, but even when it was trash, they still could consistently get to the AFCC.

It's just a difference in philosophy. You 'could' improve your defense with top picks that are unproven, or you 'could' improve an already explosive offense by adding more options.

Denver's were in big situations too. In fact, many of them the receivers were wide open with open field. None was bigger than Anderson's drop with about 30 yards in front of him.

We need to move on from Heath.

I reluctantly - and with some degree of sadness - agree with you.

When is the last time that Heath broke a tackle? Jesse James is a better receiver, by a large margin, at this point. Yes, yes, I @#$%ing get that Heath is a better blocker, but James can learn to be a better blocker, and Spaeth can fill that role in any event. Heath ain't gonna learn to be faster and a better receiver at this point in his career.

An Eric Green type TE would be awesome.
I wouldn't mind the Steelers loading up the offense. If one or two go down to an injury like it has here recently, plugging in someone else won't hurt as much. Not only that, they seem to struggle scoring points, even when score 30+. It would be nice to have them score with ease and at will 30-40+ a game and not have the defense have all the pressure on them and them play aggressively.

I would let Spaeth go before Heath, no matter how you spin it.

I agree, Heath could take Spaeth's role in the offense plus he would be more of a sneaky pass threat in run situations. In a disaster/worse case scenario i believe Heath could play T in a pinch.

What about James? Can he not ultimately replace Heath?

Heath is a favorite of mine, but his play/ production does not match his contract number for a team with a legit SB window. I'd explore the hometown pay cut idea with him in hopes of letting him ride off into the sunset with another ring. He seems like the type of player with the loyalty to the Steelers that may actually do it for the good of the team. HEATH !!!
