Boy did the Steelers need a week off. With all of the injuries this season, surprisingly, very few of them were serious injuries.
Only Ryan Harris, Golson, and Dupree were placed on IR that had a chance to be a real contributor on this team, with Bud Dupree as the only starter. Now we are at the bye week and Bud appears to be inching closer to a return week 10 (since he has to miss 8 games before he can be activated plus one bye week).
So looking at our walking wounded, and blessed with a late bye, the Steelers have a shot to return healthy for the stretch run toward the postseason.
Here is a list of our current injured players and the percentage that they will be able to suit up for the week 9 game in Baltimore:
80% Ben Roethlisberger Torn Meniscus (Knee) Ben will try to be back for that game. Should he play is the real question.
50% Cody Wallace Hyperextended Knee He hasn't played or practiced all season. I'm beginning to wonder why he hasn't been IRed.
90% Cameron Heyward Hamstring Cam is one tough dude. His Hammy should be a 3week injury, so he should be ready to go.
50% Marcus Gilbert Mid-foot Injury I know reports are saying he will play after the bye, but I'm still skeptical due to the injury I saw. I estimate he'll be back in December, but I'd be happy to be wrong in this instance.
75% Marcus Wheaton right Shoulder Sprain With another Shoulder issue, this will be a nagging injury with a chance to reoccur all season long.
25% Shamarko Thomas Abdominal Core His injury is a 6 week injury. He'll be back in December
95% DeAngelo Williams Knee
100% Ryan Shazier MCL strain Right knee
90% Sammie Coates Hand/ Laceration/Broken Left Index Finger. If he can play with pain, he can finish the season.
100% Robert Golden Foot
100% Mike Mitchell knee
100% Stephon Tuitt Ankle
100% Antonio Brown Quad
0% Bud Dupree Abdominal Core. He is still ineligible to return for one more week. He's a 60% chance to return week 10
70% Ladarius Green Ankle/Head He's ready to return, but will he be ready to play?
Either way, this team is looking to be healthy with only 5 rostered inactive question marks, that can drop as low as 2 for the next game. That's a big change to the 7 inactive/injured players we've been carrying on game days this year.
