I present to you "The Block".

Just saw highlights of SB XL....

So a decade plus later I finally gave it a name. Ben laid the defender out, bam....Funny Ben gets criticized as a young QB who supposedly did nothing in this game....BUT...He did play a pivital role in this game contrary to popular opinion. Just watched the SB XL Highlights & Ben made the key block to protect Antawn Randle-El as he passed to Hines Ward for the game securing TD. Without it, the game could have ended very differently...

Video with 8 minutes left also shows Cowher trying to hug Ben, & Cowher tries to congratulate him on the game. Young Ben pulls away from the hug, said & I quote.

"I'll hug you in a second coach, we still got alotta work to do"...

That was definitely not one of the more well played Super Bowls, but the Steelers getting the win after falling short all those years was an amazing feeling

As it pertains to the Super Bowl marathon on NFLN, I'm watching the 18-0 Patriots lose right now. LOL

That never gets old.

Don't forget the 3rd and 28 where he scrambled out of the pocket to his left then hit Ward at the 1 which set up Ben's TD run.

If he has bad stats and win people ***** about his stats. When he has good stats and lose people ***** he lost, always been that way

He’s nothing but a game manager! That should stir up some ****.

The media heads could say what they want about Ben, but even in his early years, especially during the Cowher days, he did a lot of the small things that helped this team. Whether it was a block, extending plays/drives.

Something he's a lot more fine tuned on to this day.

Damn,I wanted to stir up some crap with my game manager comment. I guess my reputation as a Ben supporter is too widely known.

I'll mention a big play that Ben made and it wasn't him throwing a TD or running for one. The AFCC Game against the Colts when Jerome fumbled on the Colts goal line and the player scooped up Jerome's fumble and would have scored if it hadn't been for Ben making a game saving tackle at midfield. There is no SB win against Seattle without that one.

I Remeber those days as a "game manager". what many forget is how efficient he was at the pass. He would go out, get the lead, then they'd go run run run.he'd be like 19 for 25 and 220 yards but have a 10+ POINT LEAD THEN O'L BILL WOULD RUN IT OUT. Ben couldn't control that so it looked like he was just a game manager. **** the talking heads

That's my kind of football. Build a lead then pound them into submission. I know Ben is a great QB but he is more effective when he has between 20-25 passes. You limit him and give him play action and he was almost unstoppable.

Do you mean the shoestring tackle that allowed the Bus to go on to the SB? Do you mean that tackle? Snif. Snif...

Yep, those small things that were huge!

Funny that thread title made me think about "the tackle" because I wasn't the only one..lol

YET, many here and nationally undervalue him. NOT a peep about the passing title and yet all about how his interceptions cost the STEELERS games. Coryea had a great post showing the little effect those interceptions actually had yet still the "MEDIA" story of Ben Roethlesberger, for this season. If and when he retires it will be a sad day for this STEELERS fan-atic as I will witness the loss but also the mayhem of the average fans melt down to the crappy team / coaching play to follow.

I'd have to check but I think we came out throwing in all those games and then pounded the rock in the 2nd half after we got the lead.

If you get a chance Vader, post Ben's numbers of those three games..................... thanks

I think you're right, the Bengal game we were down by 10 twice in the first half I think.

Bungles: 14-21 208- 3 Tds. 0 ints.

Colts: 14-21 197- 2 Tds. 1 int.

Denver: 21-29 275- 2 Tds. 0 ints.

Thank You SIR.

Excellent numbers 49-71 = 69% completion along with 7 TDs and ONLY 1 interception. NOT bad for just a game manager..... Get the lead then pound them out, Cowher football MO.

ALSO Remeber those weren't the "passer" friendly rules of today.
