Texans interview Omar Khan for GM position

I hope the STEELERS retain him as he is pretty integral to our franchise. His contract skills and Colbert buffer are just a couple of assists he shows.

Not the first time and probably won’t be the last. Will be hard to continue to keep him around because one of these days someone is going to give him a shot.

I mean Colbert has been at least hinting at retirement for a bit now, but it’s also possible that Omar wants a shot away from the Steelers... The bar is high here

Question. Does the interview with Kahn classify as a minority interview and does the same rules apply to GM openings as coaching openings?

Omar’s strength has always been cap management and he is regarded as one of the best in the league. I don’t believe he is involved in much scouting work. If at all. Colbert has always been heavily involved in scouting since his BLESTO days and then Detroit. Omar has the next GM job once Kevin decides to retire, possibly after this draft. If that occurs, Omar would have his scout system already in place and familiar with the system. Something he definitely will not have if he goes elsewhere. One of the factors involved in moving.

Does Khan actually do anything on the talent evaluation side? I'd thought he was biz/contract/cap guy, more likely to be a team's President or COO rather than GM.

If he left, would he drag others from FO along?

I always got the sense that the business side was Khan's strength. He's been up for a number of jobs now and hasn't got one yet. Brandon Hunt seems to be the hot name to replace Colbert when he retires. He's currently the Steelers Pro Scouting Coordinator. There's also Dan Rooney Jr., who is the Player Personnel Coordinator. It'd be an awkward spot if they ever had to fire him, though.

Dan Rooney fired his brother Art Rooney Jr. in late 80s. Don’t recall what his title/was other than that it was in personnel/draft. And we had BAD drafts for a decade

Yeah, but those drafts the decade before, he was a part of those. Exquisitely handled. He and Bill Nunn sure had a pulse on players then.
