They just look amazing and fresh. Kicking Duke's *** probably helped, but regardless I hope we go back to those colors and shed the last of Pederson's fingerprints on this team.

Those uniforms are fantastic, among the best in the nation. They should've never stopped wearing them

Why did they switch in the first place? Did Wannstadet make the original change?

They just did a full campus remodel with the current vegas gold and blue. Don't expect the switch any time soon.

Does it really matter? The rest of the teams can wear them and it can be on all of the letterhead. The Pens seats in their arena are vegas gold and black and they just switched to the uniforms that everyone has wanted back since they got rid of them. I somehow think the school would be fine if the football team wore the classic unis.

At some point in the 90s or 2000s, everyone decided that uniforms needed to look "modern". And in order to look "modern" all the regular colors needed to be metallic versions of those colors, and all fonts needed to be all distorted and ****** up so as to not look plain.

Personally, I think uniforms were better with simple block numbers and letters, regular colors, etc. PSU is and will always be my favorite uniforms because I can't see them ever trying to "modernize"

Pitt hired Steve Pederson as AD in 2006. In 2007 he wanted to rebrand the team to fit with the city's steel heritage and did so with a new Panthers logo and ditching the Pitt script for the full school name of Pittsburgh. Former coach Johnny Majors was the man who instituted the change to the Pitt script originally, which was the team's first helmet logo.

I like the new colors, All pittsburgh colors! Great job!

The switch was made in 1997. The beginning of the first Pederson era.It was the era where he insisted they be called "Pittsburgh" and went with the darker blue color scheme. The reason they did away with the classic look was because they were not living up to the standard set by those who preceded them in wearing those colors (I remember one particularly bad day in Columbus where the Buckeyes beat the Panthers 72-0) and it was part one of "Extreme makeover:College Athletic Department Edition" which culminated in the tearing down of Pitt Stadium, the building of the Petersen Athletic Center, and the Panther footballers sharing Heinz Field with the Steelers.
