One thing this entire board agrees on is safety is a need.

In 2017 eight safeties were selected before the 60th pick.

Our pick is round two is #60 overall, and the talent at 2018 is about even with the talent at 2017.

By my guess 6-8, safeties will be off the board by our pick in round two. So do we wait until round two, or do we maybe reach a little to choose one in round one?

never reach

BPA or trade up or down

But the preference is a free agent FS, to replace Mitchell.

If we sign Bell, I don't see us really doing anything in free agency and our biggest need, by far, is ILB. If we are going to reach, it should be for an ILB.

Sign a FA ILB, draft ILB round 1, take your chances and draft S round 2. I'd sign an affordable S too in FA but I'm not Kevin Colbert so..

just draft this kid....problem solved

It's nice to see a free safety that can make plays on the ball at the point of the catch, and jump routes to intercept balls. I love his size, and he seems to carry it with quickness. Don't like his number choice though, it may be available this year...

Oh boy, Coolie geeking on yet another UH player, it's what makes the world go round. ;)

jk Coolie, this kid looks like a prospect.

I said in another thread that, if you want immediate help, ILB seems like something you need to Band-Aid with an FA where, for the most part, the S can be a rookie who has talent and athleticism to make up for lack of NFL experience and smarts. Seems logical (unless you get a special ILB in the draft), but may not be true.

FA ILB, draft their replacement in rounds 1 or 2 and draft a S in rounds 1 or 2.

I would be surprised if they went with a rookie over a vet. Unless they got a Watt type inside linebacker. problem is the worthy first rounders probably will be snatched up by pick 28.

12/29/17 - 2017 ALL-AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): S Terrell Williams, Houston, Sr.,...Finished the regular season fourth on the Houston team with 57 tackles while picking off four passes, a number that ranks second in The American...Defended a team-best 10 passes, breaking up six to go along with his four interceptions.

^^ I do not think he will be among the first 8 safeties off the board. What's his game like? Can he tackle well? How fast is he?

Sounds like he has some ball skills, I like that.

Once Miami cuts Timmons, we could bring him back. Even if he's lost a step he's still better than our Spense or Dirty Red...I think.

didn't imply he would be one of the first 8 safeties off the board...just that he would be a solid guy deep for the Steelers.....

I think the most important question, Coach, is how do they make room for his and the other rookie contracts?

If you've seen Coach's brilliance displayed on Scout, you'll understand.

I'd say, almost certainly better than those two. Timmons can play the Mack better than those two, probably, even in coverage, and play the Buck, if needed. That, IMO, was why he was valuable when he left, even if he was a step slower.

I don't know how you two would know that. Timmons has never played the Mack LBer spot. He was the Buck exclusively because of his lack of speed just like Williams.

Timmons is done, he was done before he left and he didn't get any better in the sun.
