Talking cap. 2015

If troy wants to be back at vet min, base give the rest as roster bonus he cant cover all he is now is a solid box S who can blow up run plays and put some pressure blitzing but utterely useless in coverage, his speed is gone. If he is unwilling mutual release

There's no way u get Ben for less than flacco and some of these other tools. He's getting at least 5 years ( coming off his best season ever ) and 125. With 35 to 40 in pocket. Put it in the bank

Like I say the only good thing is everyone else will get it to. Starting with Wilson

Ratbirds did that this year,, and almost beat brady in Foxboro,, or wherever it is.

The Ratbirds also fired their DC mid-season two years ago, I figured they were toast and in disarray, then they went out and won the SB.

Rod I agree en Moore too, had forgotten about him, he's a goner.

Gilbert would only save 860.000 against a cap hit of about 5 millions, better keep him and try to improve his playskills. He at least can be serviceable sometimes, can only improve to be consistent

If this is the case and I have no reason to believe that it isn't then I would restructure or re-sign him this year, let him play and see if he can turn into something more than he has shown, if he doesn't then release him after next year. Unfortunately, I think Heath Miller has to be included in tough decisions by the FO, he was never fast, but you can use a sun dial to time his 40.

Papillon

wilson will get more b/c he is younger and with the way things are looking he will have the same amount of rings as Ben, Ben will have relieze if he wants to retire a Steeler say 5 more years despite the market value is 20 mill and altough ben has been for the past few years been playing at 15-16 mill or less the amount of injuries he has the most I think we can give him is 6 years 110 million which averages 18.3 mill with 28 mill gauranteed

year 1 20 million base
2 23 base
3 21
4 19
5 14
6 13

at year 3 draft a qb in rnd 2 or 3 to groom

Yeah...I'm sure Ben will take millions of dollars less because he has been hurt in the past. The Steelers will give him fair market price. They always do.

I hope I am wrong on this but after the year Bell had anyone think he will be looking for a pay raise? At 779,600 this year(2015) and 966,900 base next year(2016) he is a very good bargin. I can see him as being a guy who talks raise this off season so we may have to offer a contract to him as well. Another thing is Ben has talked about wanting to finish here he may have to give up some money to do that, kinda like Brady did.

I've wondered if Bell would consider holding out in training camp, though that may be more of a 2016 concern, assuming he replicates this season's performance.

In a league where running backs are increasingly devalued and viewed as interchangeable, the elite ones like Bell can realistically hope for only one big payday.

I would not expect him to hold out THIS summer, but I would not be shocked if he did.

I think what happens with Murray will play into this but when you look at what we were with him and what were were without him that one game I think he has some leverage. I am hoping this does not become and issue but if I were the Steelers before Murray gets his big....BIG contract I would offer Bell a long term deal. This might save us some money before the market get set but I am sure Bell's agent has advised him not to take anything to wait and see what happens, jmo!

A well known Steelers beat writer had a write-up in Sundays paper where he got the Steelers $22 million under the projected cap.

He also had them giving Heyward a 5 year $40 million deal with a $10 million signing bonus - which is less than $2 million more than they gave Kordell Stewart almost 20 years ago. So am I crazy, or is he way off base?

If I were the rooneys I would give bell a fat bonus to keep him happy and inspired.

sounds good on paper - I'll have whatever Ed is smoking.

I like the idea of dumping all the old guys for rookies in the secondary - cheap + better

You can not renegotiate or tear up a rookie contract anymore until AFTER it's third season.

Because Bell was a 2nd round pick, he signed a 4-year deal with no 5th year option (like 1st rounders have). After the 4th season they become unrestricted free agents (of course they can be tagged that 5th season).

I would expect Bell to sign a lucrative deal before the 2016 season. You want to lock up running backs between their 4th and 7th year but have the ability to release them before they are 30. That can happen with a nice 5-year deal signed in summer of 2016. If we make Bell play out his 4-year deal and even franchise tag him in 2017, you still have to sign him to a huge payday but then the deal lasts that extra year when tailbacks start to wear down. I would prefer getting him under contract to a team friendly deal as soon as he's eligible. That should avoid overpayment when hestarts to lose a step.

I was talking about a Cadillac or another sweet ride. Something to let him now he's appreciated in the black and gold.
