(from what was told to me by a longstanding employee)

So I and a friend drive up to Latrobe and park in line to go into the parking lot, when it opens. We get out and walk up to the beginning of the tents. A fan and his son walk with us, 5 people in total. We are bullshitting back n forth. Talking about various players, this that and the other. The employee asks if we heard the story about Polamalu? The one about how generous he is?(I asked) He says no. I replied oh ok let's hear it then. He tells me that back when Polamalu played football, a priest unfamiliar with the Steelers approached him. The priest gave him some bread. Troy thinking it as odd took the bread. The next time the priest sees Troy a repeat performance. He slides him some bread. When the next time rolls around Troy is hellbent on not accepting any bread offered. The priest and Troy start pushing the bread back n forth.

He asks another priest what is going on, who finally gets to the bottom of it.

Well apparently the priest unfamiliar with the Steelers thought Polamalu was a homeless bum. So he gave the bread thinking Troy must be hungry.

Careful of those first impressions!

My favorite Steeler in my lifetime of being a fan. I was a baby when the 70's teams were doing their thing, so my only memories of watching those guys were in the twilight of their careers and I was still pretty damn young then. Troy was it for me. I remember when he was drafted, I was like "Cool this guy looks bad *** and has my high school football number". That was the start and everything he did after just grew the legend. Couldn't be a nicer guy by all accounts. Damn he was fun to watch on Sundays!
