Claimed off waivers from the Chargers last August, "Mett Show" spent a year holding the Steelers' second clipboard behind Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones. His fate was sealed following Pittsburgh's selection of Josh Dobbs. Arguably the least-mobile quarterback of the decade, Mettenberger doesn't have an NFL future.

Let's welcome our newest QB!

Nick Schuessler signs as undrafted free agent

Schuessler was the backup quarterback to Deshaun Watson each of his final two seasons. He was 44-66 passing for 564 yards and three touchdowns in 212 snaps over 19 games in his career and completed 67 percent of his passes with a 150.4 pass efficiency rating.

In 2016, Schuessler completed 23 of 33 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns (six games)

Team needs 5 QB arms just to be able to run practices.

Congratulations to being one of the five, Schuessler!!

Well that partly explains Dobbs

If Dobbs can't unseat Jones, then it's a wasted pick. Unless there is something we don't know about Rothlisberger, next year should have been the QB pick.

My thoughts exactly. That round 4 pick should have been a TE. I go QB next year in round 1 or 2.

Let the kid learn the offense there is no need for him to beat out Landry this year.

waive laundry, offer Kaepernick a vet min contract

watch the sky explode

A fourth round TE? The one area where we actually have OK depth?

Do you honestly think that a 4th round TE is going to unseat either Green, James, Grimble, or Johnson?

I'll gladly take a QB with brains and a little upside

Lets not have any competition in camp. I would have at least had Mettenberger come to camp and fight it out. Either that or he sucked so bad in practice last year they had no hope for him.

If you are referring to this season the only way that happens is by Jones getting hurt. Plain and simple. Now next season is a different story.

That was fast

They'll probably bring in another young QB as a camp arm. Mettenberger, by all reports last year, was not very good in practices.

Yes, because I don't see Green being reliable for us. He's one big hit away from retirement IMO. Not knocking him personally, I just think its extremely risky for him to continue given his recent head injuries.

This is the perfect time to take a flyer on a raw prospect like Dobbs. They'll know in 2 years if he has what it takes to take over when Ben is done. If not, that will be the time to use your top pick on a qb. If he works out, you save a top draft pick to use somewhere else. Might even save 2 picks, as they might need to trade up to get the guy they want.

Isn't Green still on concussion protocol?? Not sure I've seen where he has passed yet???? ANY word?

The Steelers have to release a few players - they're over the limit. Start from the bottom of the pecking order.

Did not see this one coming. Thought the stillers would at least let ZM come to camp after having a year to get healthy/learn the playbook, etc.
