Steelers vs. Chiefs Preseason Game 2 Thread

If Dobbs get demoted to 3rd string odds are big that he will not see the field, wouldn't you rather keep the younger qb that looks like he has more upside? Dobbs will never be very accurate with his throws.

The other thing to take into consideration is where they're at in their contracts. If Rudolph has secured the backup quarterback position and I think Dobbs has one more year left on his contract, are they going to keep Dobbs for one more year and let a guy like Hodges just go?

Personally, I like the tools that what Hodges has, but I think it would be a real stretch to keep him on the 53 over Dobbs.

We've seen what Dobbs can do in a real game (it wasn't spectacular but it was a win). The unknown for me is not knowing how Hodges can do in real time against the #1's???

Up to the team to find out that unknown.

If they take him off the PS they have to sign him to the 53 man roster, at least, for period of time. They can't just take him from our PS to put on theirs. At some point, they may he able to drop him down to their PS, but then someone else can steal him. I'd think teams have bigger issues than trying to steal a 3rd string small school QB of of a PS.

Yeah, but Hodges is pretty damn impressive. He is playing against 3rd stringers, sure, but what do we expect him to do against 3rd stringers? Stay in the pocket, scan the field, find an open receiver, and deliver the ball on target. What has he done against 3rd stringers? Stayed in the pocket, scanned the field, found open receivers, and delivered the ball on target.

Dobbs is just too much of a Kordell clone for me. Loves the deep ball. Poor accuracy. Runs as the first sign of trouble. Makes very dubious passes into heavy coverage.

So Hodges just looks more like an NFL QB, as compared to Dobbs, who is in his 3rd year. Final decision - keep the guy who looks like he could be an NFL QB, as opposed to the guy who likes like he might be a competent back-up, but not a guy you want ever starting a game. EVER.

Uhh, no. He started the 2nd half vs. the Faiders, stayed in for four drives for some reason, logged a turnover on downs, two punts, an interception, and a lead that evaporated under his watch.

Ben re-inserted, drives the field, TD!! Faiders score, Ben, Washington, and Juju connect on the hook-and-ladder. Missed field goal!!

Ben = two drives, TD, should have been a FG with time expiring. Dobbs = awful. Terrible. Wretched. 4 drives, turnover, turnover on downs, punts, no points, made me pine for Korky.

I predict Hodges will be on an active NFL roster, he won’t last on a practice squad. When a QB has his college production and then plays as well as he has, there will be many teams regretting not having drafted him.

Hmm, I thought we lost that game. he pretty much played the entire second half of the Raider game. I believe it was the Raven game were he threw one pass for a first down. but then Ben played the rest of the way.

Unless Hodges is a cancer in the locker room I take him over Dobbs in a heartbeat. Dobbs is in his 3rd year and he looks as bad as he did last year. They can't keep 4 QBs. They can stash Hodges on the PS but you take a chance. Fact is Dobbs isn't going to magically get better. Even if he plays better he doesn't have the arm or the ability to pass in the NFL. So why keep him? Keep the best 3.

Let's just say this, "Bermuda is happy that he works in the Information Technology field and not the NFL". These choice can affect the organization for years and years to come both financially and talent-wise...

I trust that the right decision will be made.

Oh crap - it's coming back to me now - I drank A LOT during that game...

No problem. I believe I invented a drink during that game that I call "The Dobbs":

2 oz. vermouth, 3 oz. antifreeze, 3 oz. cranberry juice, the head off a dead rat, a splash of battery acid, and Frank's RedHot to taste.

Mix ingredients in chilled beverage shaker, pour in glass half filled with ice, and drink until you see that Joshua Dobbs is not good. Tomlin apparently needed three of these.
