The Pittsburgh Steelers are unlikely to re-sign left tackle Kelvin Beachum before free agency commences on March 9, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert heavily indicated that his team is in no rush to complete signings, and will base their strategy off what the market dictates, per Fowler.

Beachum surrendered four sacks in six starts, and was placed on season-ending injured reserve in October after tearing his ACL.

Entering free agency, Beachum will be one of the top offensive tackles available on the market.

Out of all the free agents I could see Beachum as the one who leaves.........

(PS Blake feel free to prove me wrong)

Beachum will be overpaid....... simple as that.

Salute the nation

Beachum will not be offered a extension

Will be allowed to test market, Colbert as per ESpn's Fowler states, Steelers in no rush and strategy will base off what market dictates.
In a way it is good as he is coming off a torn acl, If he can be a had for a few mill less it can't hurt however if many teams on the 9th and after show intrest then Colbert has to offer a deal greater than the one he offered in the summer or he knows he has to get a OT day 1 or rnd 3.

Who knows instead of 6 years 42 mill he could be retained at 6 38 mill

which means we'll be looking to resign Foster. Good.

Non-surprising news this offseason:

1. Steelers won't spend much in free agency.
2. Steelers unlikely to sign Beachum before free agency hits.

I like Beachum and that he was a late-round pick who developed into a solid NFL left tackle. The knee injury sucked last year and I do want to see a deal worked out, but if not, I wish him nothing but the best. He is a good guy and a player a lot of teams should have on their radar.

Bushrod will be available just released. Foster will be cheap, the only logical reason to let Kelvin is to lock up Decastro draft a apperient to Villineuva, meanwhile try to get Munchak to improve big val's footwork.
If they strategy is see kelvin getting the same tyoe of offers he got last summer and this now coming off a torn acl he may return, hopefully few more OT's for cap reasons get cut we already just saw Bushrod, maybe the jets cut Ferg.
If they are not going to pay the market price of 5.75-7 mill for starting LOT cash then use it for 2 DB's Weddle and Trumaine Jhonson/Sean Smith

If joe thomas really wants out i could see the browns overpaying for him... There may be a small glut of left tackles cut in the following weeks too. Several age and injuries coupled eith bigger contracts may for once push several onto the market a bit later...

With BB still playing somewhat mobile and our Oline play improved, I think it necessary to keep someone who knows Ben's scramble "playground " style to best defend our aging Field General. Villanueva has a lot of upside, but Beachum with Villi is a solid insurance policy for Ben's blindside. Only questions are;

1. How is that knee
2. How much is he looking for on the market
3. Does Munchak have a plan B on the roster if Villi doesn't play well next year

Standing by for thoughts as Ben isn't getting any younger.

I think with Beachum leaving it opens the door for Foster, McLendon, and Gay to come back. Honestly, would you rather have Beachum or Foster, Gay, Mclendon and lock up DD for 6 years? Smart move by the front office. I would have talks with all four right away to gauge their assessment of their market value and put it against what the FO thinks and decide if it is worth talking now though. I mean if McLendon says I think I am worth 4 years 20 million and we are thinking 4 years 16 million it's not that hard to mean in the middle.

Call me crazy, but my sense is there's a pretty nice batch of decent FA's available. Not sure why I feel this year is any different, but looking at the FA lists at our positions of need - OL, CB, S, even TE, there seem to be more players out there than usual that may be ripe for picking. I'm not talking about the top-tier guys, just solid, yet not too-old vets, that the Steelers tend to look at. I think this year could potentially line-up just right for us to not overpay anyone and maybe grab a gem or two along the way. Let's see how it all shakes out.

Beachum is a proven commodity. Can play any position on the O line. He isn't one you want to let go. I don't think he will command top dollar,, and I think we will resign him.

Tibs is ******* crazy.

I, for one, don't like this. I think Beachum is one of our best OLmen...

Better than DeCastro, Pouncey and Gilbert? I think he's a competent LT vs the pass and a little weak as a run blocker.

Competent LT can make a lot of money in free agency. I say the odds of the Steelers keeping Beachum is 4-1 against.

He stabilized the LT position when we were really hurting in 2013 (Adams was a disaster for the first 4 games at LT), but benefitted from the scheme of the offense (we relied heavily on the no-huddle with Ben getting the ball out quickly). He had a very solid 2014. He took a step backward to start 2015 (before he got injured)...allowing sacks and getting called for penalties at a much higher rate than in 2014. With his size he'll never be a force in the running game.

I'm quite happy to let Villaneuva take the position and hopefully be a huge bargain for us the next 2 seasons.

This is how I see it. Beachum regressed in his contract year, and the drop off between his and Villaneuva's play was near zero. Villaneuva will likely get better in his second season as a starter. Munchak will see to that

I absolutely prefer him to Gilbert

Good to see they are putting the "feelers" out to gauge his asking price. I think if they can resign him for under 6 mil a year they would be getting a great deal. Gilbert at rt is getting about that and isn't as serviceable as Kelvin is. IMO.

I say deuces to him. Go get overpaid whIle we fix our secondary.

Liked Beachum but he's replaceable.

I think that we are one franchise that has proved that we can plug lineman in just about anywhere and be just fine. There will be plenty of journeyman out there very capable of playing multiple positions that we can sign on the cheap that will be absolutely more than serviceable.
