The Steelers have restructured the contracts of WR Antonio Brown, TE Heath Miller and K Shaun Suisham, creating nearly $6 million of cap room for this year, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. The team plans to use the majority of the extra cap room to offset the large number of injured players that have been counting against the Steelers' salary cap.

Maybe we can sign the guy released by the Bears.

maybe we could spend some of that on a better strength and conditioning coach

WOw injuries A-D-D up...............

Salute the nation

I'm ok with the bump in pay for AB. Geez we all know he deserves it. I would like to see an extension for Beachum though. I don't want to go into 2016 with doubt at LT.

Win win. Keeps AB happy for another year, frees up some cap space so we can afford 8 more kickers as they all get hurt.

There was no bump in pay, he will get 2 million less next year.

In reworking contract, Steelers WR Brown gets hefty pay raise

The Steelers have had a longstanding policy to not rework non-quarterbacks' contracts with multiple years remaining, but nothing was said about giving a player an advance on his pay.

An industry source Tuesday confirmed the Steelers took $2 million of Antonio Brown's 2016 contract and converted it to a signing bonus this season. That bumps Brown's salary this season to $8 million, which is more in line with some of the top receivers in the NFL.

Brown signed a five-year extension in 2012 for $42 million but has outperformed his contract with consecutive 100-plus catch seasons. Brown confirmed the restructuring and raise after practice Tuesday.

“They could've told me to stick to my original deal,” Brown said. “I am deeply grateful and have tremendous gratitude. They didn't have to do it. It just shows what they think about me.”

What the Steelers did with AB is not against longstanding policy. They didn't extend his contract or give him more money. All they did, as they do every year, is move money to a bonus to typically spread it out over the remaining contract and free up some cap space. No issue with what they did with AB.

Has anyone seen the details of Miller’s or Suisham’s restructured contracts? For AB, evidently, we moved 2016 money into a bonus, thus spreading the money out over each year of the contract (including this year). This is interesting to me because it is, in a way, the opposite of what we have been doing recently. Recently, we have taken current year pay and turned it into a bonus, thus pushing part of the money from the current year into the future. In this case, we are taking next year’s pay and pulling part of it into this year. In light of the cap room someone reported recently, I wonder if what we are doing is freeing up space for next year (rather than now). I am curious what we did with the other 2 to see if consistent.

Of course, this may have been done simply to give AB some recognition and make him happier.

I'm assuming Brown converted this year's 6M and next year's 2m into a 1M base(approx) for this year and a 2.33m charge in additional dead money each of the next 3 years. That move should open (approximately) 2.67M this year.

Suisham has 4 years left, a simple restructure would save about 1.2-1.3M this year. And add 400k to each of the last 3 years

Millers straight restructure losers his cap figure by 1.5M this year

All told, I don't exactly know the figures they used or if they used voidable years. But one could assume these moves save 5.2-5.5M on this year's cap

not that this would ever happen but it would be pretty awesome if they freed up enough money and then trade for chancellor
