While it sucks that Johnston lost his job due to injury the previous season,I thought Waitman did a fantastic job last season. I wish Johnston luck in catching on with another team. I haven’t looked it up but I’m sure Waitman is also cheaper?

Cheaper but won the job with a clear average differential..

They said on the radio he had better hangtime as well. I thought Johnston was put in situations to pin teams deep, hence the lower average, and IMO he's better than Waitman in this area. Tomlin may just like the left foot spin or the comfort level holding for Boswell as well. Both were good options.

Waitman is cheaper salary

Johnston $1.5M+
Waitman $1.1M

But Johnston comes with a $1.9M dead cap hit so this was not a money decision. Waitman won the job.
 
Read this morning that the Saints made a trade offer for the punter Waitman. Don’t know the specifics but Steelers decided to keep him.
