Sometimes when the Pittsburgh Steelers release their protected practice squad list it helps to tip off the availability of some of their injured players.

That could be the case this week as the Steelers designated tight end Kevin Rader as one of their protected players. Rader was protected during week 1 and 2 this season when Eric Ebron was banged up.

That is again the case this week. Ebron missed last week’s game in Cleveland with a hamstring injury. The Steelers didn’t elevate Rader this past weekend, instead choosing to go with two tight ends. They could do that again this week if the game plan sees fit. They will have until Monday afternoon to make a decision this week.

The other two protected players are veterans Anthony Miller, and Karl Joseph. Joseph has been protected for seven straight weeks.
