On the radio they are talkin' who would go on the Steelers Mt Rushmore.

The Chief....no brainer
Chuck Noll.....OK, I'll buy that
Dan Rooney....OK too
Franco Harris....ahhh maybe

Bill Nunn.....first reaction would be ...a scout ?? But without Bill Nunn we would never have had near the talent from the small black colleges that put us over the top.

A bunch of the names are etched on the Lombardi trophies lined up in a row in an exhibit at the Steelers practice facility on Pittsburgh’s South Side, and the best of the players Mr. Nunn scouted also are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Mel Blount and John Stallworth and L.C. Greenwood. Donnie Shell. Ernie Holmes and Joe Gilliam. Glen Edwards and Frank Lewis. All of them from predominantly black colleges, all of them identified by Bill Nunn as players worthy of a shot at success in the NFL at a time when what would be obvious now wasn’t necessarily so obvious.

Come on! It is Noll, not Knoll. Geesh. and it is Mt Rushmore. Lambert is my all time favorite Steeler but no way he is there over Joe Greene. He was the key to the turnaround from the old Steelers to the championship years.

I did it to rile up the board lol. I remember a thread about this where people were spelling Knoll instead of Noll.
Lol. I'll edit it now that my little kicks and giggles is satisfied ;)
 
And I stand by my Lambert argument
 
again with the history the Steelers have had, their Rushmore would have more heads than the on in South Dakota

Wrong...wrong...wrong There would be no team without the Chief Cope. There would be no dynasty without Noll Cope. You can not immortalize a team by just displaying a couple of their better players.

Yeah, me too dino and as much as I liked Troy, I don't consider him Mt Rushmore material either and I would vote Lambert before Ben too.

Even Mel Blount made more of an impact on the team's history than any of them. I know there's no "Polamalu Rule", that's for sure.

I think for these types of exercises I would like to see a contributors and a players Mt. Rushmore. It is really hard to keep AR, DR and Noll off the list leaving Greene as the only player to go on. You put the first three and maybe a guy like Nunn on the list, then you have a really fun discussion on which three players join Greene.
 
Steelers have too much history. Maybe do a Mt. Rushmore with more faces?

The strongest, and most logical, list yet.

But I'd maybe give Franco a slight edge over Lambert because he scored the most famous touchdown in NFL history. Many consider that the catalyst for the Steelers' four SB wins in the '70s.
 
I'm going to pose a question here, what really are the Chief's accomplishments?

He was a charismatic business man, who poorly ran a football franchise for 35 years until his son Dan took over football operations. The Steelers made the playoffs only once during those 35 years, and were brutally embarrassed in that game. He wasn't a team first businessman. He sold the beloved Steelers, and was very lucky to get it back. Though in actuality, he didn't get the team back. He bought half of the Eagles and moved the Eagles to Pit and changed the team name, as the original Steelers (Pirates) moved to Philly in a market swap in 41.

Dan Rooney took over football operations in the late 60s. The Dynasty is Dan's, the drafts are Dan's and the lwoB repuSs are Dan's. Heck Dan even selected Noll. Chief got to reap the rewards.

The Chief is beloved. He was truly an excellent community leader and family man. He did have to endure a lot to try and make a floundering franchise viable vs college football and baseball in the 30s and 40s. I think those are his merits. He just gets more credit than he deserves for the Dynasty owing in part to his larger than life personality mixed with generous portions of nostalgia.
